Hose Reels
« on: June 12, 2014, 04:50:25 pm »
Looking at getting a new hose reel (I think free standing)
at the moment i take my hose reel out of the van, but i think im going to now put some clips in the van floor so that the hose reel stays there, but i also have the option of taking it out if needed ( any ideas on how to do this would be appreciated!)

question is, which is a decent, reasonably robust hose reel to get?
i'm not looking to spend as much as the cox reels if im honest, as i have no need for something that industrial, just a decent hose reel that wont fall over every 3 seconds!!

i've had a look around, and the cheapest seems to be on the gardiners site, but it looks a bit flimsy so i'm assuming thats why they're cheap?
i'm swaying towards the purefreedom freestanding, but i've also used xline's in the past and they seemed pretty decent?

(most of the standard hose reels on all the sites look exactly the bloody same, just different colours, so i'm struggling to see why there are such price differences!!)

any ideas and advice most welcome!

cheers

Have you tried the Claber reels? One of mine is over 2 years old and used with hot and cold, and it's still going strong.

On the subject of fixing them down, I used to use a 2ft square piece of 22mm ply and have it held in place by these..

Don't bother lifting reels in and out anymore tho!

Hi dave

In regards to the clips, i use something similar at the moment (just to hold the reel to the side) but i wasn't sure how robust plastic clips would be holding the reel...

I've just put a search in for claber hose reels, they look more more for garden use (if i'm looking at the right ones?)would they be ok if knocked about a bit as look a littke flimsy?
In fact one of them looks exactly like the Gardiner one...

Cheers for the reply

No worries Don. . Like I say, 2 years later and still going strong matey!

They do look a bit flimsy but have performed brilliantly for the money and are soooo much nicer to use than those 'orrible "wavy sided " ones like purefreedom sell!

I was just going to go for the purefreedom again but reading the other thread i'm not sure...

I am tempted at the price of the claber/gardener one  if im honest, if it lasts me a year then its bugger all at that price

Cheers lads

The Gardiner ones look rubbish plastic. Pure freedom do a few, but this looks solid http://www.purefreedom.co.uk/pure-freedom-professional-hose-and-reel-p-631.html
All pure freedom ones have a long base so they don't tip up. Had none, so don't know

You keep flogging the Hozelock reel. They look rubbish and don't want one. Saying that. My mum died 3 years ago. I got her Hozelock reel. Its been outside all that time.Frost and everything. It still works a treat

Thats the one i was looking at mate, two clip like things on the front to hold it on place when driving about...

Bob, used the hozelock reels and felt it was going to break everytime i wound the hose in.
Plus for the amount a hosereel costs i figured i'd get a half decent one, that will hopefully last a bit

I splashed out on a claber reel (yeah, I'm a tight arse :-X) over a year ago and it's still in great nick going strong. I'm a bit ocd with looking after my kit in terms of treating it with kid gloves and regularly taking it apart to clean it, but for less than 40 smackers I can't fault it.

Here you go Don, this will hold your reel securely in van and also allow you to easily remove reel when required. http://images-cdn.ecwid.com/images/1268004/48127271.jpg  You can buy them here: www.theonlinecleaningshop.com

Clabber Reel works fine and is excellent value, have mine secured in the van with the plastic pipe clips.
