When you turn up to start a block paved driveway and it's covered in weeds what do you apply  weedkiller etc as this takes time to work what attacks and kills weeds rapidly ? Jamie

Nothing really, when I started I went down the whole route of treat the weeds 1-2 week before on a dry day then clean then resand. Now I just push them to have it cleaned, I'll resand if the want.

Weeds will always come back, that's the nature of weeds. Unless the customer is prepared to carry out regular maintenance then they will come back.

Just blast them out.

My pitch is that you can't defeat nature ( well legally ) and weeds will return usually by seeds being blown in and settling in the joints.

They can either buy round up and spot treat new weeds as they show or pay for me to return in a year/18 months to clean again.

I weed kill and sand as standard.  If they don't want the full package I often don't do the work. Its my rep on the line. I am fully licensed to apply pesticides.
I find most people that want block paving cleaned is because of the weeds and secondly because of the dirt on the blocks.
I, as a home owner I paid a contractor several hundred pounds to clean my weedy drive and 3 weeks later thw weeds are back. I would be pretty annoyed that all I had to show for it was clean blocks.
Or neighbours,  if I saw a neighbours drive was just as green after a month then I wouldn't hire the same contractor.
I get several calls a month by people who have had some one else clean their drive and want me to redo it because they aren't completely satisfied with the results.

Blasting weeds doesn't remove them!

If  jobs worth doing its worth doing properly in my eyes!

Do you weed kill a few days before cleaning?

What's involved in getting a pesticide licence ??

I've as yet not had any weeds return that quick, my oldest job which I did last sept. Asked for another clean a couple of weeks back, the original clean was full of weeds and the custy is disabled and likes to throw out tons of bird seed, so I expected a jungle, to my surprise there were only a couple of tiny leafy weeds at the edge of the patio.

I do usually apply either a sanitiser or hypo after a clean

I would give longer than that. A week or 2.
The licence is a load of tosh tbh but, rules is rules.  Just Google PA1 and PA6 and your local area.  Should give you all the info you need.

Hypo probably helps no end. Also the cold winter months will aid.
