Well, i have had one of those customers!
« on: May 21, 2014, 04:34:01 pm »
The one who finds any reason not to pay.

We did a full house clean, attic carpet clean and kitchen tile clean/restoration.

He says he is only going to pay £60 less than the invoice into my bank because he thinks that's fair as we did not take the shower head apart and clean inside!!!! The invoice was miles lower than normal anyway as he changed the job when we got there and we had to go back the next day and I just knew he was a problem customer.  Should of gone with my gut instinct. Had a nightmare this week, this is the 3rd complete nutter I have had! Never doing house cleans again!

Does anyone know what the link is to take legal action.

cost £2 + vat for solicitors letter before action, that might scare them into paying.

Do you think you would win?

He believes you have done a sub standard job and deducted what he believes to be a fair amount. He has not refused to pay or bounced his cheque.

Forget it and move on.

In a couple of months get a water pistol, fill it full of urine and fire it through his letterbox

I don't get this, why leave with less than your owed? A firm word in his ear if you know what I mean and you would have been paid. I'm sick of tw*ts like this trying to rip off the hard working small business men. Happened to me twice, both times got paid before I left, either that or they walk with a limp for the rest if their lives.

Steve. He was only there at the start. I had bad vibes from the begining so school boy error on my part. Don't worry i have let him know that if he does not pay it all tonight that i will put all the dirty water back in the next few days. I like Mike's idea and they have had new carpets fitted  ;D

We do deep cleans on properties too.  Whenever I get a gut instinct about someone I just knock the job back or add another £300 on to the price so they will say no.

Deep cleans are hard work and good money for that hard work.  Taking the shower-head apart is not in my description of a deep clean.  We clean the shower head so its free of all gunge, but never take it a part.

To be honest, I think he is a cheeky git...

What percentage figure does this £60 shower head clean represent? 10% of total, 20%, 30%? If he's paid the monies direct to your account, you would have to return that amount and then pursue the total via Northhampton County Court. If he disputes all or part of the claim you'll have to attend a local court to fight the case. How many hours would you have to take off for that? It may stick in your throat, and it could be argued this guy is pulling a fast one, but sometimes it's better to just move on. Your call obviously but what goes around comes around, and sooner or later someone will get even. You could, on his behalf, order a few tonnes of sand to be dropped on his drive and ask for the invoice to be pushed through the letter box ;) Not that I'd advocate any such action 8)

'Demanding money with menaces' , would not do your business any good if it went to court and your name and business name was linked with it, even if found not guilty.

Anyway an update - He has paid last night by BACS but £60 less. After hrs of texts, phone calls and getting very angry, so angry I was close to putting on the steelies and going round last night. I have now decided this is not good for my health and I'm not going to pursue legal action because I think he is the type of person to go to the very bitter end even though I have plenty of evidence against him like a signed list of things we needed to go back to the next day which we did but not included the shower head on his text.

After he paid he realised what his invoice ref was  -  INVOICE REF – B1GTo55er  ;D
He was not happy about it  :P
I said it just looks like random letters and numbers to me!!! lol
Not very professional I know but he is one!

Don't worry I have a memory of an elephant and never forget things like this and these type of people get what they deserve in the end!!!

I think you've had a lucky escape, if he was a real barsteward (and there are plenty of them) he could have refused to pay - full stop.
Put it down to experience and move on.
Hate those kind of people myself but they are part and parcel of dealing with the general public.

Ha Ha Neil. I'm liking all these revenge ideas.

Yes Simon, I am trying my best to put it down to experience and thought he would not pay me at all tbh.
I am getting better at weeding out the problem customers so hopefully won't get this again.

I had a similar situation a few years ago (someone deducting a percentage of the bill) due to "a smell. The cleaners literally had to chisel the limescale off it, the build up was so bad.

The house had been on the market for a year then sold within a week of the clean. The Estate Agents were over the moon to get rid of her.

When I mentioned this, one of the girls recognised her name. Apparently she is well known for it and is a serial part payer. Perhaps that is how she can afford the big house (cleaners in the Tamworth area beware).

Sadly, the recent European Court ruling means that they can force Search Engines to expunge all relevant information from their indices. It's crooks' charter.

You should have offered to redo the shower head FOC as part of the job. Then again he was determined not to pay regardless.

I love that idea of Mikes.

I'm still owed £40 from someone for a job I did 12 months ago - where can I buy a water pistol.
