Item you least like to clean!
« on: March 28, 2006, 10:12:10 pm »
Hi all,

I'm bored so thought I'd start my first poll!

I cleaned a really dirty cream leather suite covered in soot from a chimney collapse today. It took neary 5 hours but seemed like 10!

I hate cleaning leather suites anyway as it seems to take forever, I always quote top dollar for these so am not bothered if I don't get the job but money gives me the enthusism to take on the job if they agree.

What do you hate cleaning out of the above, if different please mention.

Kind regards,
Jason.

I'm not suprised really!

Some people just dont like cleaning them, me included! I've never cleaned any but have seen them cleaned on courses I've attended. I've been asked twice in the couple of years I've been in this business but passed the work on........

I think its because they're normally awkward to get to and full of dust and spider webs  :o!

Ive cleaned a couple of pairs with the hot solvent through my ninja in the garage, not keen at all, certainly wouldnt want to use the system in a customers house, even with the garage door and window open the fumes built up in there, you would only need a spark (cigarette or light switch etc switched on) to have a a nice big fireball,i talked to several people who own them before buying it and they all said the same thing, rip it out of the machine, at least it makes it lighter for lifting in and out of the van!!

Perhaps you should add "town houses" to the poll...Hate them!!! stairs too narrow...and owners too fussy!

I would go back. She gave everyone else a hard time. She liked you and your work. Well done

Jason (and others)

I'm interested in what you used to clean the leather suite. I have used Ashbys Stain Remover Plus on two very dirty cream leather suites recently and found it to be very effective. I have also used Prochem Leather Cleaner for less-soiled furniture and Prochem Leather Conditioner after cleaning. I have heard that the Leather Master products are good.

I enjoy cleaning leather as I find it very therapeutic and you can charge top dollar. Any feedback on products, or other related advice would be most welcome.

I like leather work, it doesn't involve loads of kit being dragged in and out of the van and the ticket values high compared to the amount of sweat involved ;D

I use extractas leather cleaning/protection products and have had good results from them every time.

It is true that the majority of suites that come up for cleaning are cream/light coloured, but then again these show the dirt and the finished result off better than dark suites so i find them good for getting referrals from.

Jason (and others)

 Prochem Leather Conditioner after cleaning.

There is no need to condition or "nourish" after cleaning, the moisture lost in leather is replaced during the cleaning process, protected and semi-aniline leathers just need cleaning then protecting to seal the surface after cleaning.

I HATE cleaning manked, greasy, heavily soiled, heavy tobacco filmed crud suites - like all of us!

Love Leather though and don't mind curtains either! Do them all the time. I much prefer leather - as Nick said its nice not taking loads of equipment in and out ;D It's only the odd occasion when leather can be a pig - but hey one now and then isnt too bad.

We use Altec's leather concentrate cleaner & conditioner which we feel is very good (better than the VERY EXPENSIVE, & allegedly the best, Fenice product. It's pronounced feneechy - italian brand.

After a while curtains become a breeze (if you dont mind spiders!) -  but being honest with the custy is important i.e. the what the visual appearance will be afterwards. We always explain that they will feel nicer and look a bit brighter - and that's it!

Hi Venom

You've got some rubbish on the left and side of your posts.

Sorry, I hate cleaning Upholstery, makes my hand hurt with all the detail.
