Hose slackening from reel
« on: May 09, 2014, 04:05:59 pm »
Righto fellas,

I got some new pressure hose a while back, the old stuff had been repaired too many times, and was hard and brittle. This new stuff is great, easy to work with etc... but i usually only take what i need from the reel and leave the rest on it. do the job, and reel in. Since getting this new hose, if i use say, half the reel, when its time to reel the hose in, the hose that was left on the reel, has all come slack, and i need to unroll it all then roll the WHOLE lot of hose back on to make it tight.

Any idea why this happens? is it just because the new hose is more pliable? The hose reel has a locking pin, so when im using the machine, the hose reel cant move around, although there is a tiny bit of play and when you pull/let go of the trigger, the hose reel kind of clunks (not the right word, but it moves a fraction on the locking bolt due to loading/unloading the pressure if that makes sense)

I have same problem. Plus I used to be able to pull the hose out while machine is on but now I can't with this new hose. I have to switch off and release pressure before can pull out more hose. Maybe it's because it's thicker hose than old one??

Matt

I have locking pins on all of the hose reels. The clunking is the pressure build up as you let go of the trigger. The holes in the hose reel will have broadened out and there will be some play when the pin goes into them.

The water running through the hose causes the vibration, the vibration broadens the locking pin holes, the vibrating continues and your hose unwinds on the reel.

I've just bought four today, won't make any difference though. I am expecting them to start breaking quite quickly.

It's the reel not the hose

I thought it might have been because the locking pin holes had gotten bigger, but i think it has something to do with the new hose too, because as soon as i changed the hose, it started happening.

Oh well, i might have to get a bigger locking pin, because my hose reel is custom  ;D

When you have enough hose out and you have surplus on the reel, trap it behind the handle and it won't move.
