Recomend a van
« on: May 04, 2014, 10:06:20 pm »
So i don't have much to spend about £2200 it will have to do as its all i have for now and hopefully it will only have to last a year.
I have never owned a van before so don't know what's what but have done a bit of research and this seems to be the consensus is transit=rusts Renault-nissan=good but fragile vivero=gear box fails  and merc and vw or out of my price range.

So what would be the best in your opinion i have to admit to liking the look of the nissan primastar  they all seem relay clean and you seem to get a lot for your money.

If you spend time and go and look at a few, you will get a decent 04/05 transit for that money.

Ldv maxus

You can get a low mileage, 05/06 plate for that amount

A primastar is a vivaro/ trafic . I paid 1600 for a 54 plate in Jan last year , it had 68 k .

Sold last month with 92k for 2600 , only put 2 tyres on it , and serviced it . Auctions are the way.

They went bust because unlike banks the government wouldn't stump up any cash, they would rather have another 20k unemployed, it's just the way manufacturing has been treated over the last 30 odd years..

The engine is particularly good made by VM - parts are cheap.

It's not a  sophisticated  van, don't expect the latest refinements, but it's a bloody good workhorse that will pull well over a tonne all day every day.

If they made good vans they may have made a profit -  why would they then need to blag money from the government ? They make Iveco vans look refined. VM is an Italian designed engine made in china. If you buy a LDV make sure you buy a spare clutch pedal  ;)

My Transit has been flooded more times than Chris has been abused on here. It went for it's MOT a couple of months ago and when the guy was told what we do he wouldn't believe it.

There is slight rust marks appearing on the bodywork now - it's an 08 plate but there's nothing wrong with the chassis and it still does 100, mine has 1000 kg of kit in it, without water.

1500 kilo payload and just keeps going - LWB - high top.

Get a tranny ;)

Rob ;D

The guy has around £2k

I'd rather have an 07 maxus with 70k on the clock than a thrashed 04 tranny that's been to the moon and back

When monies tight, or needs to be spent on what you NEED to have rather than what you would LIKE to have the maxus, as un trendy as it is will be a better option

IMO and experience

Loads of decent Transits on Ebay for his budget.

Transits are like any van - just got to put the legwork in to find the decent ones.

I am joking ;D

If I had the choice of the two, from new I would still favour the Transit

Hows about a Citroen Dispatch around 2005 ugly as sin but they don't rust and have twin side loading doors not that much smaller than a swb transit, 3 seater, good to drive cheap to buy and run but ugly  ;D

yeah im thinking transit now if there's nothing in my area my second choice will be the Nissan/Renault, i don't want to be looking for a van for weeks and weeks so im not going to be too fussy.

£2200 will get you a decent older Vivaro or Citroen Dispatch.

We have both types and all going well.  All on 05 or 55 plates, serviced regularly and all great. Vivaro's have more oomph.
