bl**dy cheek
« on: April 30, 2014, 07:10:05 am »
Had a call yesterday, Indian lady,

could I call and give her a price for 4 bedrooms and s/l ,arranged a survey.

I met the custy  her first response was " oh no it wasn't you " ??? :o   apparently, after a little questioning she  has her carpets cleaned by another a few months earlier c/c but had lost their number, how ever could I give her a quote whilst I was there in case she couldn't find the previous c/c >:(
She had arranged a number of quotes to see if the previous c/c turned up and she recognised them ::)roll, bl**dy cheek of it.

Any way I quoted, gritting my teeth and gave her a very tempting low price, hoping she gets back to me ;D
I will arrange if this is the case , and not bother to turn up!!!

What would you have done?  Am I been unprofessional ? not to turn up if I gain the job.

Book the job and call on the day to say you can't make it because you are going to the pub for a drink but you are going to try every beer they have before placing your order as you can't remember wich one you really liked the last time. Del

People like that have little or no manners and are not bothered if you have driven 50 miles and missed an appointment opportunity to clean for someone else, I'm afraid I'm like Hercule Poirot when I get a suspect voice or tone I don't trust asking loads of questions.

Hi Geoff

I had a similar experience a few years ago....suspecting that I was going to be involved with some heavy price bargaining I elected to ask a few questions and quote a ball-park figure over the phone.

''Far too expensive'', came the immediate reply

The guy then asked if I would visit him to give a quote.... I informed him that my price wouldn't be far away from my verbal quote, which he had already rejected as being too expensive, therefore it would be a total waste of time me visiting

He persisted and in the end I agreed (just to get him off the phone) to go

So I thought to myself....self I said...think about it....half an hour to get there.....at least half an hour haggling....another half an hour return journey.... no chance in getting any work

You guessed it...... I didn't go!

NO REGRETS

This is really funny.

your all here talking to each other but the chance comes your way to help another local carpet cleaner out and you fail. you had a chance to make a friend and maybe help each other out from time to time. what happens if your ill or a flood job comes in would it not be nice to have local help to cover the work?

Great case of having your image on your site would have saved the time

Your confusing me Ian,
How the hell would I be helping another carpet cleaner ? ::)roll
how do I know who cleaned the carpets in the first place , even she did not know  ::)roll.

As for helping other local c/c  , I have no qualms with that :) we all help each other in our area , well most of us ;) after all , we are Yorkshire lads.

I can relate , Against better judgement I agreed to do a clean for a price haggle type lady
She stood over me for the whole clean. The agreed amount was £145 when I
finished I requested my meagre earnings customer smiles sweetly at me and says
£100 pounds ?  >:( I looked her straight in the eye ........real mean like and said
pay up.......she did but what a cheek !
Keeping it clean !

How about just giving her the bill for your time? Do you advertise 'free quotes'

she has just assumed you give free quotes, tell her you don't give free quotes you provide a survey & evaluation service for which you charge a fee.

Give her a bill for £85 ;)

i only arrange quotes that are fairly close together so if you do get a numpty like your lady, then its not a big deal

also i would be more likely to give her a really HIGH quote, so if by some miracle she does book you then BONUS
