As a trad cleaner I want to get a decent van and get it sign written... also thinking of longterm getting a backpack and pole etc to use for harder to get windows.... but for the near future will be staying trad with some wfp with a backpack...

Which van would be best? Was thinking ford connect, Combo?

Can't decide but just something that's a couple of grand and decent looking... :-)

youd be lucky to get a connect at that price, i would buy a fiat doblo, decent size for you, cheep to buy 50 miles a gallon and little problems they have a 1.3 suzuki engie which will suit you fine

get a lot for your money, they are chain driven, as long as you keep topped up with oil you will be fine, (they only hold 3 litres of oil) if theres a rattle the timing chain needs tightened, apart from that everything on these is pretty good, easy engines to work on as well

toughest engine in my opinion is the 1.9 peugeot non turbo fitted to the peugeot partner and citroen berlingo vans. should do 200k before they show signs of wear , no other makes do that mileage

Which suzuki engine would that be?, the only 1.3 you get with a doblo is the turbo diesel, which is a fiat engine. Suzuki do use that engine in the swift, but, like all diesel suzuki's, they buy them in from other manufacturers.

At that price, 1.9 diesel peugeot partner or citroen berlingo. Simple, rugged and reliable!

Another question.. which of the vans is lower in terms of loading and unloading the ladders? I don't want it to be too high to put ladder on after each house :-)

the berlingo is lower but you may still need steps at times depending on your height, I have had 2 berlingos and at 5' 10" its a struggle but do'able.

Saying that Robert the Bruce above has one and I doubt he struggles

What about Vauxhall astra vans or something more car based? I'm just thinking in terms of loading ladders on cars after every house...don't really want steps etc :-)

If you are not going wfp then as you say prob better off with an astra van or try to find a decent low miles Escort van? As Astra can be a pain with the hatch back knocking the ladders off and scraping your bonnet, I have done that more than once

you will not need steps for berlingo size van, I am only 5 ft 6 and managed just fine with ladders

Can't decide whether to get a cheap van for say 2k or get a much more expensive one on finance? Are there any good deals at the moment with finance or leasing? Would an astra van be big enough to fit in a backpack and pole etc if I did go part wfp? :-)
