Hot Box Exhaust Chimney
« on: April 01, 2014, 04:48:36 pm »
I need to get something sorted to vent the fumes from my hot box. Its van mounted, and i was just going to throw on a piece of ducting at a 90 degree bend but Lee mentioned that the 90 will cause the soot to drop back into the boiler.

I cant go straight up through the roof, so it has to be a bend that will funnel the fumes out the back doors.

I was thinking 2 x 45 degree, but.... that will be the same as putting a 90 on it  :-\

Any suggestions?

EDIT: I have just been looking and it seems a few of the bigger yank machines are using a 90 degree bend to vent the fumes out of he trailers/trucks. Just a short 90 bend.

I have a shelf above the machine. It spans the width of the van.

Matt

Lee is right

I will show you how mine is set up because I have the exhaust and burner going through the roof, as one outlet.

I'll get a picture tomorrow. There is one on the hose reel thread but it may not be clear

I think ive seen yours Rob but i cant go straight up through the roof because of racking and shelving above the machine.

The flexi I have to the roof cowling can be shaped around stuff. Can you not cut holes through the racking?

The problem with the hotbox exhausts is that they are oblong shaped. I would have something put together for me, something like a box, 135 degree angle and then straight up.

Put a picture up mate so we can see.

Don't go out of the side of the van because the exhaust stains the paintwork. It hasn't damaged my paintwork on the roof but it is discoloured.

Cant really cut a hole in the shelving. Its a shelf that runs the width of the van over machine. I would much prefer to get a bend and face it out the back doors. I never work with doors shut anyway.

Bring it out on a right angle...put a "trap door " on the bend to facilitate easy cleaning. Use one of these while the burner is running http://www.reginproducts.co.uk/consumables/REGM05

Hi mate,

Yeah, got a bigger newer(ish) van now, same machine, but got a trailer machine spare. Starting to really pic up now that the weather is a bit better. Hows about you?

Good stuff with the IPAF course, how did you get on? easy?

I run a soot breaker once a year anyway, and if i put any bend on the exhaust of the burner, it will be removable, so cleaning wont be an issue, just dont want to have to take it off and clean it very often.

ipaf was fairly straight forward. the little theory test was  pretty easy for me due to my H&S background. It will all be about experience using equipment though. That's what really matters.

What machine you running now. I'm thinking of pushing my  pressure washing stuff more now. I never really bother much with it apart from the contract stuff i do for a company where i  clean skylights on huge warehouses. My little loncin 3600 psi machine has served me well. Looking at a honda one from Qwashers.

So, i cant go through the roof. Not really wanting to cut a hole in the van either.

Anyone think i could use a 45 degree then a piece of straight then another 45 degree?
I was thinking of using a 45 then run some straight along the side of the van then another 45 to vent it out the back doors?
