what do you do if there is no outside tap and not one available from the neighbours either?. can you get a fitting from plumbers merchants to maybe fit the washing machine tap? (if you can access it) .

You can  do that or use one of those "universal" fittings onto an inside tap.

A standard hozelock male nipple will fit on the end of a washing machine valve (3/4")

Be careful that the valve is actually a valve before disconnecting the washing machine, or be prepared to find the stopcock, Fast..

I would strongly advise against using one of those fittings that allow you to connect to an inside sink tap. If your away washing the driveway, and that fitting pops off, you wont know until your tank runs out of water, and by that time you could have done a lot of damage.

When i use to work in London, we had to be creative with where to get our water supplies from. Be warned, using washing machines/indoor taps etc can and will cause problems, its only a matter of time..

look on ebay for a water hydrant spanner ... totally illegal and you will be fooked if caught   plus you will need an ibc or lrge tank in van / trailer to escape with the stolen loot

Weird you mention this. I did some communal areas this week on Monday, no taps and no where apart from a kitchen tap to get water, which I didn't fancy. I had no standpipe and it was a last min job.
I only needed about 3000-4000 litres so I went to three car garages in the area offering to pay just to fill up, bearing in mind this was local to me (same town), they all said no, made me think where the FU** has community spirit gone. I found one garage who did it in the end, paid him and then put his card on the resident notice board, so hopefully he will get work as I let them know what he did.

After two fill ups a neighbour came over off the estate opposite and said I just want a small paved area doing so just put in a small charge and cleaned that while I filled up for the final time :-)

Hozelock do quite a few in-door tap fitting's these days, we have to use them all the time with some of the rooftop work we do as there isn't always an outside tap, always a worry but if you take your time in connecting try the hose under pressure, you should be ok, I have had one blow-off and it's a pain.

I try to use the washing machine outlet as mentioned a hose lock fitting screws straight in.

Also a lot of the modern mixer taps have a removable screw end, which hose lock have adapters for which is more secure than the rubber and jubilee clip

This can be a real pain. I try and talk customer into connecting this up for me. Usually they have a hose and an indoor hozelock tap connector around for their own personal garden use, so I'll connect to that when they've rugged it up.

Failing that I'll do it and put a damp j-cloth over the tap and connector as theres always a leak because the connection never fits perfect. I always warn customer of risk and ask them to be responsible to keep an eye on it, but there's always a worry in the back of your mind.

Might start turning jobs like this down, its only a matter of time otherwise.

We did 6000sq/m with no water supply, well there was, but we had to borrow a forklift every time, fill up an ibc, then drop it back to where we were cleaning. Took about 20 mins to fill ibc, and 10 mins faffing about getting machine back it and dropping fork lift back etc.

Added easily a day to the job.

Nightmare.

For a small per day charge I think just a couple of quid a day Anglian Water would allow you to use a stand pipe anywhere in the district!! You had to have a meeting with them, pay a deposit for the stand pipe and away you go. In my opinion it's a no brainer, only problem with them however, is that they now say that you have to collect your wash water and take it back to base for disposal!!! This wasn't feasible to me to do so looked at building a recycling unit. Whilst this was actually quite doable I couldn't justify the cost versus the small amount of work I was doing and I was busy with other commitments so didn't make the investment! Now no pwing at all!!!
