Advice please on cleaning decking.
« on: March 25, 2014, 01:37:48 pm »
Ok so got a job yesterday to clean someone's drive a patio and get rang me back last asking if I could clean the decking. I've never cleaned decking before and will be honest if not for reading this forum I would probably gone to town with the turbo lance  and ruined. So my question is how do you guys clean decking! I have a 12" fsc and also a vario nozzle. Do you guys use a flat surface cleaner then use hypo followed by rinse down with vario nozzle. Do you just use vario nozzle on nothing else. I've included a couple if pictures of the decking if it helps. It does seem like there is a brown varnish on the decking to. Cheers

Kevin, As you said Roger has great knowledge in this subject. He has probably forgot more than i know in this topic. Firstly i would recommend cleaning a friends deck first to gain some experience FOC.
Ask your customer what is the product that is on the deck to determine best course of action.
Remember too much pressure ,saturation of chems can damage the deck. Ed

Keith
Had a look at the photos, bit had to tell as the deck is wet, but from the handrail, look's like a stain not varnish and most probably Ronseal, s cleaning alone won't remove all the stain it is going to need stripping back to bare wood. Can you find out what was used?

Phil,
Had a quick look at that product, reading the page it sounds/looks like a per-carb but without seeing the MSDS can't really say. Per-carbs are ok-ish for light cleaning and that's about it really, big in the States for home-owners to use, as they can't do much damage.
