If you have loads of "followers" or loads sharing your articles then it can be good. As Ian rightly says, if someone shares your posts, then they are seen by lots of people who may not have seen them otherwise.
Where it gets interesting is if your stuff gets picked up by someone with a huge following. Say you have an interesting weight loss product. If that was shared by say, a fitness guru with a huge following (some have 150,000+ followers), then you could get in front of hundreds of thousands quite quickly.
For SEO purposes, if your G= account links to your website, it is an indication that the site is run by a "real" person and so is more trustworthy. Bear in mind everything is dictated by a software program rather than a person and many will say that G= is open to manipulation.
