Guys

Your customers use google so they will be signed in when searching for carpet cleaning by being engaged on G+ and using tags, like #carpetcleaning #southend those G+ post will come up in the search results.

G+ is worth the effort BTW its unlike other social as it has hangouts and the links with youtube make it more advanced than all the other text only based like facebook and twitter.

and in fact Microsoft is far advanced that when the jump happens with bing many will be left behind. How? with windows 8 you search from your computer when your looking for local files on your system but you also get web results. so no need to go to google in the future. take up of windows 8 is slow but with the old operating systems not getting support any more means many will be forced to update. many will stay with windows but lots will go mobile.

my G+ https://plus.google.com/+IanHarper/

BTW if you only use G+ for SEO its worth it. expecting lots of work will not happen for some time. as the customers will not be on G+ but will reach them in google search results  because they are signed in, thats where your benefit. and from the link juice from within G+ and that only works if you post are engaging and people comment, so why chat here in a walled garden when you dont get any juice chat with other carpet cleaners on G+ and get the juice

I understand what you are saying but getting people to use google plus is going to be hard work the jump from facebook for 30 year plus is going to be hard it's only the younger end that go from social site to social site who may benefit IMO g+ lay out is wrong as for its Seo benefits they may be better but there are so many social media sites that you have to be on them all it's coming to a point where it'll take longer to Seo then do a full days work cleaning.

Google will be a tough one to beat because of mobile and context search. The nexus 5 running Kitkat and it's google now integration hint the way things are going. They are pretty much forcing android users adopt G+.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

you dont need them to switch. thats the magic. as long as use any of google services and are signed in they will see you posts. they not need to use G+ google would love it if they did but its not needed.

Someone said you can now get four positions on the result page. yes you can but some have to have different url. like you not get seo if you use that url in adwords. but the good news is that if people reshare a G+ post of yours them its unlimited. i had one adwords one seo and two G+ on one results page.

G+ is the new link exchange -)

So in essence you write an article cleaning related and hash tag it #carpet cleaning and that's it?

Looks like it.

I've just done another test and it seems you can get to the front page of google - high ranked in 3 minutes:
I can't pretend to understand what's going on though.

David. When I did my IM mentorship (Spring 2009) we were doing this then, especially with long tail phrases in universal search.

In those days we were using web 2.0 properties but the principle is the same. The best I got was seven out of the top ten results for a Halloween costume promotion (nice bit of commission). The best I saw someone else do was the top thirty three positions for their keyword!

Basically, anyone serious about internet marketing has been doing this approach for ages. I was shown a method recently (that is the exact opposite of how Ian is doing things) that to me, was sheer genius. In fairness the other guy was ignoring rankings totally and just concentrating on customers and sales.

G+ is good for getting something indexed really quickly (and a lot of other things). In short, it's well worth persevering with.

David, that may have sounded a bit harsh (which was not the intention). The point is that there is more than one way to get into Google (legally).

 ??? ??? ???

I'm totally baffled by all this.

When would someone use Google + to search for a CC and not standard Google search engine?

Am I missing the point?

I'm a bit of a Luddite when it comes to all this stuff.

My ipad in fact all my apple products don't use google front page anymore so does that mean that they are trying to knock out google?

I still get google results if I ask for say plumber Sheffield etc

One other thing, why would you search for '3 ways to remove blood' as a search term? Would you put something like, 'how to remove blood from a sofa'

A good tip for the future is to use keywords the way you would just say it rather than type it. Whilst Google Now and Siri are pretty rubbish they WILL be the norm in the next year or so.

It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

Some time ago I would often post on Facebook, twitter and also Google+. I found that it did drive some traffic to my site although it would not generate any solid work....more people just having a look I guess. I don't advertise on Facebook either.

I once noticed that a post I put on Google+ had reached no one page.....did anyone look at it ,....yes they did....did it bring any work?.....no it didn't. The Google+ post soon dropped out of existence, so I guess these posts are only temporary despite the excitement.

Anyhow....as I've not been busy this week I decided to create 5 new pages on an old and often forgotten about web site that I have. The site does not rank particularly well except for one or two pages, mainly because I couldn't be arsed with it.
I decided (because I had so much time) that I would make each page simple but focus on good architecture and quality for those 5 pages. I also cleaned up the other pages and tidied up the rest of the sites architecture. I finished the pages yesterday and when i checked this morning, most of the 5 pages were on page one for each search criteria. I was actually pretty stunned.

The web site does not have any incoming links including Google+, facebook and twitter or perhaps any links it could be penalized with. So much for social media eh!

So sometimes we can forget that if we have a web site, can the spiders crawl it properly? And also if it was done by a web designer.....did they do a good job?

Screw Google
Screw Facebook
Screw Twitter
Screw LinkedIn

I hate social media for business and all the nonsense that we supposedly have to adhere to.

I think most of us are baffled by this (inc me) to some extent.

As far as I understand, posting work-stuff on G+ isn't really about getting people to see or search for the posts on G+.  It's about having a big(ger) presence on the internet, as far a google sees - which (hopefully) boosts your credibility (with google), and boosts your real website (and adwords campaigns) up the rankings.  Well, that's my theory anyway.

Remember: The Internet is only one marketing channel, there are loads more non-internet options.
