New to pressure washing (newbie questions)
« on: March 07, 2014, 10:34:28 am »
Late last year i have decided to try and earn a living pressure washing drives and patios and see where it takes me but from reading this forum i have some newbie questions? First i will start of by telling you the eqipemnt i have purchased

Genuine,Japanese Yanmar L100 10 HP Hilta Electric Start diesel pressure washer
Genuine interpump ws201 driven by reduction gearbox
3000psi that produces 15 litres per minute
Unloader valve (made to suck and return to tank / source, to keep the pump water cooled when not in use, thus prolonging the life of the pump,
10 meter hose

Question 1 - What is hypo? I see it mentioned a lot on here but what exactly is and how is it applied. Im guessing its a cleaning agent but is it a must and where is it purchased?
Question 2 - Recently purchased a turbo nozzle ( are these a must as I've seen some people say they are not? is there a specific turbo nozzle to get i.e. better quality?
Question 3 - on Block paving do you use a flat rotary cleaner or lance/turbo nozzle I'm worried that if i use the turbo nozzle i will pull up to much sand from between the joints. I have a flat surface cleaner cleaner but only 12" ( i sense some of you turning up your noses lol) i wish id bought a bigger one i.e. 18" and I'm keeping my eyes out for one
Question 4 - i see some companies now refuse to do a re-seal why is this?

Im going to be brave and stick some pictures up of my machine a a couple of drives I've done, please don't laugh lol and ps hope pictures are allowed.

Any advice on my current set up, machine was bought locally from me in wigan area from a top bloke called Lee, really helped me out and genuine.

Nothing wrong with the way your setup in my eyes! I generally only use a turbo nozzle on block paving , but some use the flat surface cleaners because they are faster ect. You don't need to worry about the turbo on blocks because generally it only removes about 10mm of jointing sand anyway. The only problem I can see is this machine will use a fair bit of water so how are you feeding it? Generally it's a good idea to have a head of water in a tank ect which you keep topped up with customers hose so you don't have to keep stopping and wait for the water to fill up.

Cheers yeah currently i use a green wheelie bin as a water source with a hose pipe constantly feeding it from the customers water source. Luckily so far all my clients have has outside water taps
