Call yesterday.
"We've had your leaflet and we're looking for a window cleaner." We discuss the house.
"Ok, the price is as it is on the leaflet." (£18)
"Well, can you do a deal?" (uh oh)
"No, we work off the leaflet price"
"But I'm going to be a regular customer"
"Sorry?"
"Yes, we're going to use you every six weeks"
"Er" (bit stunned, to be honest)
"So if we're regular, how about you do us a deal?"
"Has it occurred to you that all of our customers are regular?"
"We'll pay cash"
"Most of our customers pay cash and I pay my taxes so there's no benefit to us"
"How about £8?"
"Pardon?"
"I'll pay £8"
"Why on earth would I do it for that much?"
"I can get you my neighbour as well for £8" (Oh, goody, two underpriced houses! Need to start enjoying this)
"If your neighbour wants them done I'll do them a special price of £18 as well"
"OK, £10"
"Tell you what, I'll do it for £18"
"You're being very unreasonable"
"Do you do this in McDonald's? Do you see their price on the menu and haggle?"
Bit more to-ing and fro-ing, then...
"Should I call XXX?" (now this guy is AWFUL. Simply terrible. I've picked up business from him since I started and when people show me the job he's been doing, I laugh. I cannot begin to tell you how bad he is. He's so bad that I can't inflict him even on a joker like this)
"I wouldn't call him, to be honest. He'll do a house your size for around the price you're looking for, but he'll do a truly terrible job and will turn up when he feels like it. I can't recommend him. By all means phone around but leave him off your list"
"OK, I'll give him a call".
