thermobore binned!
« on: February 25, 2014, 04:46:49 pm »

this "pasta twist" effect started happening about a month into using hot water.the whole 100m has had to be binned today.ive been using thermobore with cold water for over a year now no problems then today it burst about 50m in. ::)roll.water all over my van as it burst while still on the reel.

anyone else had problems with thermobore when using hot water?temperature was at around 30 degrees at brush end.the pasta twist affect is over the entire 100m length.

regards

Wow that looks bad,  I've had 2 reels of thermobore for about 2 years now and at high temperatures 50-75C but I do have the pressure (not flow) down as low as I can, I use a pressure switch rather than a controller to adjust the pressure.  I only recently had to chop a 6ft length off the end due to a burst, but that was probably from a gate.

How hot do you have it and what pressure?

Simon.

I'm on my second reel and that's showing signs of delaminating too. Last time I complained I had to check my records - I'd had it well over a year so can't complain really. Never managed to cook it as bad as yours though.  ;D

We have 2 reels of microbore running hot water for over a year with no problems.

I personally would stick with the 6mm microbore, the 8 mm will be heavier and take more space on the hose reel

There is no way thermboore will do that at 30 degrees. Its had 65 and up to produce that result.
Daz so often you stated quite clearly on here that you use your water a hot as possible and I have been waiting for this to happen. Thermobore has polyurethane as a mane component which is only good till 65 degree after that the wall will loose its structure. Just watch that yellow hose fall apart.  You will have to use a hot, power washer hose next and that`s very heavy.
Thank God its the hose that went and not you heater. Its just a matter of time before someone blows up his heater and has a major problem.
I have watched my pump push water into my system for 30 seconds after I close the pole tap and often thought it quite dangerous as the heater system has a 3.5 lit ( 7 lit a min pump) excess as well adding heat before it shuts off the pump and then the boiler. The pressure must be enormous.

Agree, too hot.
Had a standard hose from pure freedom about 5 years now, been hot for over 2 years and no problems. And hose across roads most days with vehicles pounding over it. Keep heater on summer setting and both controlls at half. Flow rate of 60.

ive  just ordered the thermobore PLUS red hose.8mm.

seriously guys the heater dial was just a bit higher than the min setting.maybe the smaller hose has been giving a bit too much back pressure.with 8mm hose ill probably be able to turn the flow setting down a bit and still get the same flow at brush end. ;) ;D

shammy im using the emergency hose and reel with cold water mate till my new hose comes. ;)

ive never had the heater setting on half way even on minging first cleans and UPVC cleans!

It could be the controller set with a too high D/E, i know i had to change my controller from a Varistream to a Spring/Gardiners controller because i couldnt adjust the D/E enough on the Varistream ???

My thermobore has been fine just using the pressure switch on the pump.

Dazmond aside from the hot water use , You have the same set up as me with StreamBox and orange thermobore it has always baffled me that you your flow rate is so high .

Although i do use 1mm jets so i would assume the back up of pressure of running at a flow rate of  60 plus 30c water is what has caused your meltdown .

My current flow rate is 30 with cold water and normally 24 in the warmer months , Hope you get things sorted . Mike
