customers going every second month
« on: February 24, 2014, 07:23:44 pm »
Hi all, got a bit of a diliema.

Ive started having more and more customers only want their windows cleaned every second month, Ive done it for a few in the past and not charged any extra as it was literaly only a few . Most of my work is quite compact and I think the customers talk to each other. Ive got a couple of late who have asked, but ive yet to get back too them.
Im going to have to tell them that I cant do it for the same price, but am unsure how much extra to charge ?.
This has put me in a position where as im also going to have to tell the existing two monthlys ,that I can no longer clean them for that price too.
I know ive made a rod for my own back and that it sounds unprofessional, but id rather lose the ones wanting to go two months rather than all my customers getting wind of it and also wanting to do the same.
What would you guys do, and how much extra would you charge for every second month ?.
Any feed back appreciated.

I prefer 8 weekley to 4 weekley any day of the week.

On a house i was charging £12 for i say or you can have it for £15 8W they always jump for the 8W.

I can do 3x £12 houses an hour easily or 3x £15 houses an hour easily.

If the house is on a main road, surrounded by trees be careful. But in a normal estate, the difference between 4 and 8 weeks is minimal.

My normal round is between 5 and 6 weeks. and they are always clean

if it was me i would switch everyone to 6 weekly, whether they liked or not and put the price by say £2.00 or leave at the present rate and new customers get charged an extra £2.00
The longer the frequency of clean the more customers you will need

If I started over again I'd run a 6 and 12 weekly service as this is more suited to WFP cleaning. 12 weekers would be plus 50% of the six weekly price.

However,  I was trad when I started out and have stuck to 4 and 8 weekly cleans.

Basically,  an 8 weekly price is usually between 20 and 40 % dearer than 4 weekly.

I love 8 weekly more money, hardly any more work.

I usually sell the 8 weekly service by giving this as my standard service.  IE £16
And offering the 4 weekly at a "discounted" rate IE £12

Most these days go for the standard service

I keep it easy and simple

"Yes Mrs Jones our price for cleaning all the glass, frames, sills and UPVC doors is £14 and we call once a month"

can you do it every other month ??

"No we only offer a monthly service"

sure we get the odd one wanting to change but not very often ... if it happens we look at job individually and take it from there.

We offer a monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly service, (calender month). but make sure thr vast majority of bi and quarterley cleans are NOT done in December ans Feb as these are short months anyway

You need to try and find out why they are changing. But remember if its a financial reason they will do anything but tell the truth. Some folk are looking to just cut back expenses. To me its a sign of the times. Its better than cancelling.

Sign of the times I'm afraid though few will admit it. People are cutting back as times are hard take a look at Aldis and Lidls car parks, window cleaning is not a necessity.

we do this -

for example £10 a month house or £12 two monthly or £15 3 monthly.

lets be honest with the weather its hard to do 12 cleans a year monthly, its going to be more like 10,6 or 3 cleans depending on frequency of clean.

most customer go with the £10 a month or ie £100 ish a year, as £12 or £15 sounds more but is cheaper per year.

Depends on where you are in the country, we do 4 wky, so get 13 cleans in every year in without fail.

Touch wood, norfolk has missed nearly every single major bad spell of weather over the last few years.

Seems a good rule of thumb (works for me)

I feel you have to offer what the customers wants or someone else will, but you MUST add something.

I typically charge an extra 25% for 8 weekly but round it up to the nearest pound , But with my compact work if anyone asks i am going to charge more .

So for instance a £7.00 house  i would typically  increase to £9.00 but i am going to round up to £10.00 , Otherwise some of us may find that more customers may well be looking at switch cleaning schedules . Mike

Wow, how do you keep up with it all?

I would hate going back to the same area I was just at a few weeks ago. I do 4 or 8 weekly. Hit an area, then that's it for another month.
