Been window cleaning since early 2010 and built up a great business with proper good customers no idiots messers etc. tried PW last year as another string to my bow but quickly realised it needs and should be run as a proper separate business so sold my gear to concentrate on just window cleaning as this brings in the money nice and steadily and this is what can definitely pay my bills but I think PW is a better earner and can be done in all weathers (resanding excluded of course)

Do you think I would be mad to sell up the window cleaning and go for it 100% with the PW ... anyone else done anything similar on this side of the forum ??

May sell 50% off so got some income but that wouldn't be enough to cover the bills ??

What do you "proper" PW lads do during the winter ?

Rob from M-Clean had a window cleaning business before he pressure washed, sold it off if i remember correctly.

If it was me, I'd employ someone to do the windows, so your still earning, and concentrate on the pressure washing. You could work the windows with him while your not PW, and as it grows, spend more time on the PW. Simples..

I agree with Matt.
That way you will have some money coming in regularly.
I wouldn't even consider selling a good round that can look after itself, as long as you can find someone to run it well, and someone you can trust.

Yep, Matt is spot on in my opinion.

We started up pressure washing last year because several customers
( windy cleaning ) asked if I'd do their patios.

Brought all the gear ( with no idea 😃 ) and practiced on my garden shed, the patio the in laws patio started advertising and it's going really well.

Yes we earn more per hr than windows approx 25% to 40% but of course no repeat biz. ( well on a 4 wky cycle )

I employ so the staff go do windows and I pressure wash, but like my gutter vac'ing we go as a 2 man team

If I were you Ian I'd keep building both the window cleaning and pressure washing divisions as you will have a good customer data base to work from

Unless you go large scale and commercial you'll make money more consistantly via WC.

Not only that but you've already said it yourself, you've a ready made client base for your add on PW.

if you sold your round , you will be sitting around a lot,   you have to go get the work and stand out from the rest.   do it part time,     do all you can to get work pw       trial it for 6 months,      KEEP YOUR WINDOW CLEANING ROUND.

it would be harder starting window cleaning again if you sold it.
post an add on gumtree,      lots of people out there will bite your hand off  for work p/t.   pay them when needed basis,     dont employ them,  let them claim there working hours.   and the rest.let them work on a self employed basis.
if you do wfp cleaning more easier for them.
when you trust them you can leave them to do windows same wage,    giving you time to do pw   work.

If you have spare days in the month when you are not on glass then this time can be spent with add on services like pw jobs without selling your round.

If you sold up completely first without establishing your pw side then I think would be left in the poop with very little income coming in. Even selling part of your round I think you will end up regretting doing so.

Yes you can make extra dosh offering a domestic pw service but unless you invest heavily in the right equipment then commercial work would be very limited to what you could actually take on.

I take my hat off to the likes of blasterway on here but the equipment they use now is well beyond my means.

Think I know which way I'm heading now ... going to sell a third of round off towards end of summer so reminder will pay the bills (nearly) and will use the cash to buy bigger van and a decent set up ... unfortunately cant finance van and equipment unless sell part of round.
