Are the extremes worth the price
« on: February 23, 2014, 08:43:17 pm »
Trying to take my business to the next level brought new van tanks hoses pump boxes etc etc works flowing well
been using my clxs with no issues but always have problems with with knees and back

Been looking at the gardeners extremes
25 and 47ft would spending the best part of £1700 make any a significant difference  / benefit me

as it's a lot of cash to fork out when i cant see it making me any more money than my clxs do

But if it helps my aches and pains !

''Someone somewhere needs help.....extreme or not to extreme''
 ;D just joking daz  ;D

I have have an slx25 and theres a big difference so would imagine you'll notice benefits with the extremes...
Why don't you have a quick google before making stupid comments?

Got 18,22,25 35 and 47's extremes.

Awesome poles

Even my dad uses them now and he hates spending money.

The 47ft extreme extensions are even awesome.

The way I see it your ruining your health using a clx doing repetitive work.

I suffer pain every day even though I do exercises and see physio and stuff.

I think the extremes are dirt cheap, spent just over £500 on mine, not that much really.

At the end of the day they are tools of the trade
if you break it down over a year its a fiver a day

Sounds better than £1700 quid

Probably not worth bothering with a 25ft Extreme (unless the physical issues are very bad) as a 25ft SLX is light.  Once you start getting to 35ft and beyond though it's worth it.

Does this mean you have dropped the idea of subbing out the high work?

Only way I can work. Due to back and neck injury.

Even slx's are too heavy. Pathetic really :(

Depends how quickly you're gonna go through 'em.
Do you end up buying 2 or 3 18's a year? Then, no, they're not worth it.
Get 3 years out of one? Yeah, definitely go for it.
I've got 18 & 30' SLXII and 47' extreme.
Used to get 6 months out if my 18' (everyday pole) and 18 months out of my 30'
I'm now 6 months using my Gardiners poles (after being Ionics all the way) the 30' looks as good as the day I bought it and the 18, the most wear is on the sticker!
I should easily get a couple of years out of it I think.
In actual use my 30' SLXII feels the same weight as my 47' extreme (I know it isn't-just feels it when working)
Do you work any higher than 50'?
The ionic swift+ pole (IMO) is a better standalone pole over 50' but if you only occasionally go much higher then the extreme 47' and extensions is a better buy.
I sold my ionic 72' and bought HS extensions.

In short:
If you're feeling a bit creaky then yes buy the extremes.

Eh, and heres me just starting out and using brodex alloy poles....

No, after using them i do want a slx 18 pole.

Cant afford at the moment to be jumping to clx, nor extreme,

When ive built up a customer basis then for sure.

No 3 floors plus veluxs max
my poles last me a good year
I ache and creak at the end of the week but been like it for years
a good 2 days rest and back up and running again
but if the weight saving is significant it may be worth the cost over a year

Well worth the money. You could buy a more expensive pole that wouldn't be as good.

Really dont understand the mentalenty of you lot,

were no different from joiners etc providing a service,

guys I now use dewalt or makita, never seen any use black and decker.

They choose the best because it is more economically viable!

You cant afford a couple days wages on most important piece equipment you will ever own.

Anyone using a clx or similar is deluded thinking there health wont suffer.

an extreme 25 could last you 2 or 3 years used as an every day pole if you look after it

extreme 47 could last you 5 or 6 years if used only  10-20 times a month.MAYBE EVEN LONGER!

you do the maths.

absolutely go for both poles IMO.

well worth the money.

the difference between a SLX 25 and extreme 25 is HUGE!!really!a lot lighter and more rigid.

go for it.you will not be disappointed ;)
price higher/work harder!

● I've always thought of the brush as being the most important part of my equipment
apart from  the weight issue ( in my case it's a factor worth considering due to my aches and pains )
A broom handle does the same thing
if it was not for that  my clxs would be adequate
maybe it's because I've never really used anything else apart from Ali poles prior to the clx so when changed it was a godsend
ill probably feel the same if i go down the extreme route

most of us have done it mate.

i started off with long closed length glass fibre/ali poles then hybrid, then carbon, then high modulus carbon!same with brushes!vikan, supalite standards, then extreme! ;D

dont write off the SLXs.they are good light poles but for higher work you cant beat an extreme at 50 ft.

you could just buy a 47 and break it down and use it as a 22 or 25 and add sections when needed if you want to save money.although you wont have the insulated base section.

i prefer to have separate poles and save the faffing around.

the 25 gets used for the majority of my work and reaches most windows from ground floor to 3 storey(2nd floor).

the 47  gets used on large domestic, some commercial and solar panel cleaning.

the rigidity of the extremes makes scrubbing the glass easier and obviously the lightness is amazing.my slx 22 feels like its made of lead after getting used to the extremes but still useable.

the real benefit is felt when your reaching at full stretch over a kitchen extension to clean upper windows set back or windows over connys.this is where strain is more likely with heavier poles.i have lots of awkward windows on my round.

i also have large domestic where im using the 25 fully extended just to reach normal 1st floor windows.

the only gripe i have with extreme poles is i wish they had  woven in banding on the stop indicators instead of tape as it wears away after a while.ive replaced the tape but its already coming off after a few weeks and getting chewed up.its a minor little niggle though.

My health hasn't suffered from using a clx 18, if you haven't got the strength to lift one there is a problem somewhere else.
