Gained a job and lost it in a day lol
« on: February 14, 2014, 03:32:41 pm »
So got a phone call from a local lady with a big farm house wanting a quote so went round and it was a big farm house with 18 windows average size 2 doors and a set of French doors, told her £20 trad and she said great just what she was expecting!
Goes ahead with it monthly so I say I'll be back in next few days when weathers good then get a phone call an hour later her husband says it's too much and they paid the last guy £10 lol but they'd go up to £15!
She said it won't take you that long so £10 for less than an hours work is good, yet somehow I bet her husband doesn't work for £10 an hour judging by the merc and range rover sat in the driveway!
Basically told her that was the price and that was that to which she replied was there's plenty others and she'll find Somone else.
Absolute tight wads some of these people, crack me up living in big houses with the nice cars but don't want to pay for things like window cleaning at a decent price!!!

That's why they have so much money  ;D

Only joking I'm with you on this pal, let them get on with it. If your time and service is worth the price then why should you do it for less?

Had one a couple of weeks ago. Bungalow in a area that i havent any work in so far. Quoted her £10, she nearly fell over. The last windie charged £7 but has not been back for ages. She tells me she will think about it and get back to me. Saw her in town a week after and asked if i could do them as she hasn't found anybody else. I have passed her number to a guy i know that works in that area. He told her £8 as he works in the area and she gave him an extra quid tip. All that fuss for one pound extra!

People presume that you don't run a proper business, they think your vehicle runs on thin air and insurance companies give you free cover etc. It's like they want clean windows but don't want you to earn anything. Pees me off

I can beat that.  I had a quote accepted by the woman.  Her husband came out and started arguing with her because he said it was too expensive.  Quite a row too.  I told them that I would make it easy for them and that I wouldn't be back.  So, gained a job and then lost it before I had even left :)

Lol that is a gud un!
They crack me up,I'm trying to build a round up not a charity!
The thing is I'm getting jobs coming in like hot cakes now with no real advertising or canvassing, I've picked 3 £20 jobs up this week alone and hardly been out with the weather this would have been creamy but never mind I'm not desperate that I'll undercut myself!
The thing is it's not just the time doing the job it's the going back to collect money at night too and she said she wouldn't do bank payment so I think I'm better off away from tight fisted a-holes like that!

Yeah I should have Danny, I do enjoy these customers who put they're foot in they're mouth without looking in the mirror!
The best ones are the ones who ask for a quote and pretend they don't already have a windie!!

I priced a very large mansion a few years back and actually under priced it.
The wife agreed but asked me to come back and discuss the details with her husband.
Came back in daylight and noticed the windows were filthy you could hardly see through them.
Husband came to the door and said I was too expensive and that he has a guy who comes once a
year for half my quote.
Fair enough goodbye.
I don't mind anybody not paying for a window cleaner its their money but a least clean them yourself.
Dirt bag.

Good on ya for sticking to ya guns and not dropping the price !!! You probably would have had a knightmare getting them to pay !!!! Tight wads.

I had a mansion once and kept doing her conserv roof which she didn't want to pay for it I only charged extra £15 was a fair size roof and cheap I think, she turned round and said we are pensioners I told her well you'd better downsize then if you can't afford to maintain your house. It sat on about an acre of land swooping in and out drive with big electric gates they make me laugh so didn't go back after that. She kept asking me to do little things for free like would you clean the shed windows which I did for free then it was the green house for free didn't take long so didn't charge then asked if I could do greenhouse roof didn't offer more money so when I did the conser roof told her £15 she didn't pay so I told her next time it will be £15 for the roof again she didn't pay so the next time I didn't clean it and she foned me up if I remember and said I hadn't cleaned it I said well if ya not gonna pay £15 which was cheap then I won't clean it that's why I didn't go back after she telling me she's a pensioner cheek !!! 👳👳

If they dont do bank payment then ask them to post you a cheque.
I only collect from little old ladies with no bank accounts.
So a twenty pound job is worth even less if you factor in your time and fuel collecting.

£20 was cheap I would have said £40 first then £20 stricktly direct debit only so tell her to call me they be sharpe back to you lol

Also she was silly what she should have done was give you £20 then when that first clean was out the way offer you £10 like any other true bad customer would
She lost here you gained yourself not cleaning a £20 one off that you don't need mate novice mistake by her they still have dirty windows they have lost

Last year I got that big front house ( in london) which hadn't been cleaned for 2 years to clean as a one off job.that house is worth over £1,5 million ( I know I checked it online!) . the customer told me when I quoted her:£22 ( one hour job) that she didn 't like spending money. First time I ever got  such a comment! anyway she wanted me to do it the next day. the following day I came over, she let me park my van on her driveway, made me a cup of tea and was pleasant enough!! No probs whatsoever. however when she handed over the £22 I could see how much it was bothering her! I did a good job and that beautiful house looked so much better!! what should have been a joy to her was spoiled because she resented  spending money. now I have to say I really really felt sorry for her !!! she might have been  financially well off but very poor spiritually !!!!

i usually do price and a half for first cleans but this house had just recently had new upvc fitted so would have been a quick wipe down!
it amazes me how the little old ladies always try to give you a few bob extra but the more well off generally are tighter than a nun when it comes to money, i only live a few miles from wilmslow and the houses are monster over there and they pull a face every time and try to barter with you for a price, anyone i get this from i know theyre gonna be a pain so just tell them thats the price and walk away as you know theyre the sort that will check the windows with a fine tooth comb not that i do a shoddy job or they'd moan that you did it before it rained a few hours later lol
