Best polishing cloths?
« on: February 14, 2014, 10:26:48 am »
I currently use the Unger green or blue ones instead of scrim but just lately they seem to leave loads of smears so my question is what else besides scrim do people use?
I'm wfp but have a few bungalows that I still do trad!

I've always used wcw microfibre scrims and they've always been great. They last for years and years.

We've been using these for the last 6 months or so (recommended by Leegls)

Really good, with no bits of lint or fluff! I just use my scrims for mopping up now..

I have just bought some Paragon fishscale cloths, and have been having problems with them smearing.

I bought them on the strength of good reviews received on here, so I am a little non-plussed as to what is causing the problem.

I had previously used green Unger cloths which were excellent. May go back to them if I can't resolve the above.

If you live within a few miles from the coast, especially west or south coasts, it may not be the cloths, it may be salt which is a bitch to clean using trad.

Lol@waffle lad again.

I'm on paragon microfibres too.
They work a treat.
Do find that they're crap once wet though.
Having a few that you can rotate I've found much better than scrim.

I am not far from the south west coast of Ireland, so that could be it then! I am also thinking that I could be putting too much Fairy Liquid in my bucket, perhaps creating a residue on the glass, which is causing smearing when detailing. I am currently experimenting with different amounts to see whether it makes a difference.

Question for PoleKing, when your Paragon cloths were new, did you wash them before using them for the first time?

Hi Johnny B,  leave the fairy liquid behind as your right it dose leave residue behind, one of the benefits of using microfiber to clean glass is that you don't have to use any chemicals, if you are using microfiber to clean windows its best to use one damp to clean the surface first then squeegee off moisture, then use a second microfiber glass cloth dry to polish off for a streak free finish.

Not at all and this is only a suggestion for guys who want to use microfiber for cleaning windows, as most will be using trad or wfp anyway.
