advertising for more commercial works
« on: February 13, 2014, 05:42:03 pm »
Evening all,

I'm trying to get a bit more commercial PW work in to help fil empty days in the diary. Website runs OK but I'm thinking of doing a bit more proactive like going out and getting the work instead of waiting for it to come in.

I'm thinking of either mail shotting select businesses and maybe the council or just going direct to them and canvassing. I've put together a draft letter to send already to introduce myselfcand business.

Any thought's?

I think you'd be better off joining the bar with no windows if you want council work. I have quoted on loads of council work and got nowt - I always feel like I'm the third quote. The few jobs I have got were really quoted low and they took kin ages to pay

There are ways...........
And you are thinking about it incorrectly - it will cost you TIME & MONEY and you will only get a small amount of new work for your efforts.
We have far too much work coming in - although I am not complaining - setting on another 3 guys on Monday as we can hardly cope with the enquiries and new jobs pouring in.

Nice and helpfull  ;D

We gain domestic / commercial via website, case studies are working targeting local areas. For local commercial estates we target companies use the net various sites to require contact details, send brochure and follow up with sales call, offer free demos etc. Once we gain customer stay in contact monitor site, offer all our services seems to work.

Darren is pushing Cleaning Academy why not give them ago similar pice to PA1  ;D, slightly surprised all 3 pushing cladding use adwords, obviously one avenue but still surprising

not being funny but how does that help him boasting that you are oh so busy? he asked a simple question and you've not helped him.

for us - gaining commercial work has worked purely phoning companies and asking - they can only say no.

we've been put on tender lists very easily as these companies want more subbies in order to get the best price.

do you do brick and stone cleaning? try asking to be put on the tender list of house builders in your region. (ask to speak to a surveyor)

Jettaway, I started a window cleaning business up a year ago, it now takes us 6 weeks to complete this round working 5 days a week. I then used this customer base to gain me another income stream from external property cleaning. This now keeps me booked up most weekends. I am now targeting commercial, have already done a few supermarkets for a well known store . In the process of building a professional website to target the commercial clientele.
Research companies in your area, send emails, google Adwords , flyers, telesales, website SEO , youtube videos , social media ect ect
Work is out there but you have to get your name out there too.
Hope this helps . Ed

I wasn't pushing anybody else's business - but I have learned a few new tricks from BCA as well as developing new ideas myself.

I think most of us try everything to gain new business and end up spending a lot of money without any real success .

Think outside the box and you will achieve what you want to.

In my opinion, its all about proving to these companies that you can do the work. It took us a while to start to get commercial work. Whenever we did anything even remotely commercial, we would take a load of pictures, and update the website. Adding sections specifically for commercial (especially on the home page/landing page) so that when a commercial client found you on Google, and they went to your website, they were put at ease that you could easily carry out the works.

In the last 6 months, we havent cleaned one driveway, its all been commercial work. Good and bad though, cashflow tends to be a bit slow with commercial until you get a few months in front. But im not complaining.

Jettaway

Get a really good business card. Not just really good but really high quality.

My business card is the thickest business card (not stupid) I have ever seen. It is matt laminated, double sided and does the job.

People will pay no attention to a standard one and it'll end up in the bin.

Make sure all your business profile literature is top notch.

When I started trying to gain commercial I put together a portfolio, basically a paper version of the old website, decent & current cover letter and hand them or post them out.

I bought a laminator, ring binder, clear covers and hard card backs, filled it with the relevant information.

Got a £20 000 a year works, did it for 4 years - not a bad return.

Will be going back to this as a point of reference, once the main website is updated.

All the best

Rob ;D
