Adwords works well.

if you target it specifily on certain times of the year its a goldmine. Tend to find school holidays are always good using adwords.

Van signwriting is good too, but keep your van CLEAN as it looks a bit stupid advertising WINDOW CLEANING if your van looks like it been through a pile of dead cows...

Can someone explain to me how adwords works..... Roughly what would be the cost per month? I know it's all per click and all that(Chinese to me)but what would it cost to do this?

You set a daily budget.

Say for example £5 per day.

Then you set up your keywords, each keyword has a value and will cost a certain amount. For example window cleaners i might cost 90 pence per click; and something like Window cleaner in Knaphill might cost 3pence.

Then as the add is clicked on it comes off your daily allowance. Once you allowance has been used up the ad no longer displays until the next dayly allowance is active.

Whats goos about it is you can be as specific or as broad as you like. I spent about £130 on adwords and it genertaed me about £1400 a year, and on top of that the work it genereted i got referrals too from those new customers so its more like £2000 a year for that small investment.

You do need to keep on top of it though, and you can monitor your progress with the adwords control panel and tweak your budget, your keywords and even have mulitple campaigns for specifi keywords.

van signwriting every time along with a website even if its small and simple.

had my van wrapped last year and called in to sign guys this morning to organise some small changes - changing solar panels on bonnet to conny cleans and making list of services on side bigger (their cock up and mine for signing it off at quote stage.

will post new pics when done next few weeks

I DID IT THIS WAY

put free ad in yell and thompson local, and about another 200 internet phone directories.
20-30 adverts in newsagents / shop windows.
put a video on youtube.
put buisness cards on notice boards in local pubs clubs, chip shops etc.
put my buisness on google maps.
delivered 5000 flyers.

i nearly gave up before i started window cleaning.
after i went knocking on doors, did about 200 houses, and everyone said i already have someone, or my husband does it, or just i dont want one,

i did the 30 shop window ads and put them in shops, and when i got home i had my first job off a woman i had go price up the windows, lucky i did, because that one house turned into 17 houses, all in the same street.

And the rest is history.

I got a lot of work through advertising on Facebook. You can choose your area and choose the age of people that see your ad so as not advertising to a load of kids.
I paid €30 for a month of advertising and made my money back within 15 minutes of the add going live. Would recommend this to anyone. Everyone is on Facebook these days.

I use a site on facebook. Cost me £10 per month.  Don't get loads but covers my cost plus a bit extra.
