Best methods for advertising?
« on: February 11, 2014, 06:15:21 pm »
Hello again  :)

Just wanted opinions on how people advertise and what are the best methods in terms of' Paying for online advertising'....... I advertise on yell.com at the moment and have done for a year...haven't got masses of work from it but got enough one off jobs and a few regulars to more than pay for the yearly cost of the advert... What else would you guys use? Never tried google adwords and tbh don't really understand it... I think going into the 'yellow pages' itself probably wouldn't be worth it. Where else should I invest other than yell?

Cheers for any comments fellow windies  ;D

Yell is like burning money, very few get decent results from it.

Adwords can work - but the only people I know who've actually got more out of it than the put in all used adwords professionals to run their campaigns,.. its a job best left to the experts.

In my experience the best value for money advertising is van signwriting, closely followed by a decent (And google optimised) website.
After that, simple things like your company name & number on the back of uniform tops etc brings in a decent amount of work for very little investment.

Wrote a nicely worded letter explaining what I do - slung 'em in the neighbours either side of current custies - most of new work then tends to be more 'targeted'

Only saying - worked for me

IMO google adwords –
Good:
Generally pays for itself.
Once it's set up you just have to keep an eye on it.
Can get some very good customers from it.
Bad:
Difficult to set up and google want you to spend more than you need to.
You have to be logical with it and don't try to be clever.
Can get some real messer custys that waste your time.
The price can vary greatly, depending on the time of year and supply and demand for the advertising spots.

i had 7 of the houses on gainbro rd but i had a change of heart because my workers and myself dont like that sort of house anymore.  over the xmas break i decided to take them off the list .

robertphil... would you be kind enough to give me the numbers of the 7 houses u did? Did you let the custies know u weren't coming? I could always say you have passed them onto me. If you could let me know numbers and how much you charged that would be great :-)

Also are the 7 houses ok to clean using traditional methods? ;D   I do a few in that area and from memory you can but they have some very top ones(2nd floor roof type)which I doubt we could get working off ladders...

Also I think yell.com is ok... I wouldn't go as far as to say it's 'burning money' as like I said in the original post I have more than doubled the advert cost and in all fairness the advert cost per month is pretty low.... Only takes one decent gutter job or conservatory roof etc and you can get money back in one job..... I think for the price it's worth it(considering how cheap)but want to look at other methods also as it hasn't generated masses of work(but enough to pay for advert and more)

Van writing yes defo..... I will prob in the future be looking at going wfp so will prob just wait until then to get van etc.....

I think canvassing and leaflets is the way for us at the moment :-)

Has anyone tried/considered radio advertising ?

Arond 1-3k for a 6 week ish campaign, id imagine the work wouldnt be to compact but theres a few on here who spend thousands on a mass leaflet drop, so thats not going to compact either,

Thoughts ??

Never tried Radio advertising... I think that would be abit too much money for myself to pay out personally but never tried so can't really say.
