I usually spray weeds and wait a couple of weeks then pressure wash when there all dead.
I only do this on really weedy drives.
Simon

Don't you not treat less weedy drives then mate? Or just tell home owner to do it?

If it aint that bad just turbo them out!

I did my Pa1 and Pa6 last year and found it very helpful. Any signs of weeds when doing the site survey/quotation I would factor in a weedkilling treatment. Only do this in dry conditions and calm days, no high winds to prevent drift! Stuff I use i buy locally from a lawn specialist and is round up amenity. It does state that its safe for animals and kids when dry. Once sprayed on it does not actually take long to dry.

I leave it for two weeks before going back to do the pressure washing and have found great results when returning. Some drives that had heavy weeds looked 100% better before the actual cleaning.

I also inform the customer that they may return in places but the Weedkiller only works on actively growing weeds as Chris as explained. Offer to come back to treat the area again a year later if required for a small additional cost £40/50 if required.

I have returned to a couple of drives that had heavy weed growth months after and majority are weed free and still looking good, odd one has signs of growth again but if the customer just treated them at that point it would eliminate them, some people just let them grow and it's then it's beyond privately treating!!

Hope that helps and sorry for the rushed reply!

How much did it cost you? Prices I saw were ridiculous for a "competency certificate" I consider my self to be competent. I think the regulations regarding this are a joke.

Look forward to your replies (chris)!

You can get trained for less than £300, for 2 days training its cheap, it then lasts forever unlike IPAF etc . Training covers everything chems, equip, product labels, storage blah blah, if you apply 'weed killers' on a commercial basis its law.

Agree with Great Out Doors above comment! It was less than £400 for the two days with the exams. Covers me to do this legally and advertise the service. I actually found the course well run and informative. There is more to it than meets the eye! :D

Mine was £410 plus about £50 in fuel.

Its a con!! So I can spray the same chem on my own drive but not someone elses.. Because there's a difference apparently  ???

Its common sense and the packaging tells you just as much. Don't spray in high wind, don't pour down drains, don't spray into ponds or waterways etc.. I mean come on.!!

And its not even a qualification, its a competency certificate.. Its a congratulations, you passed the idiot test, thanks for your money..

The legislation on it is mind bogglingly stupid..

OK you paid £450 so whats that one driveway job .. training paid for !

There is a massive difference, you can now spray chems / pesticides which the general public should not have access to (not just glyphosate )  If I paid a contractor to carry out work I would expect him to have the required training. Out of interest , How long was your training ? ours was two days plus an individual test at a later date so it should cover a little bit more than what you say  :)

Any home owner can walk into hss and hire a scissor lift no question, yet to work commercially you are required to take IPAF.

You have done the training now use it, add it to your website, quotations tell the customer! Then when you quote against competition who haven't the home owner will know ! As a homeowner who would you choose some numpty who says I dont need training or the company who has put themselves out to get trained  ::)roll

One big driveway job or 2 smaller jobs but yeah I know what your saying and you are bang on about as a homeowner trained to do it properly, I personally would have the same opinion on a contractor. Although I find residential homeowners don't have a clue., I did it more to cover my own rear end.

I only use glyphosate and I just think it's ridiculous you need a cert for it.

Mine was 2 days plus tests.

Add details to your website mate, highlight it on quotes, point it out to the home owner. I view it simillar to the waste carrier licence (which is a rip off  ;D) but try to use the fact that we have it, to my advantage  ;)

Do you get a % of job to do this up front in your favour.

Just looked back over my records, the cert cost me over £500 plus fuel. Did I get ripped off? No wonder the people spray illegally.

Im even more annoyed now lol.  >:(
