Nightmare, did you receive this email
« on: January 30, 2014, 06:50:43 pm »
Received this email yesterday with an attachment, panicked a bit because I had been in Scotland last year, wondered if I had a fine or something I did not pay, anyway my partner tried to open the attachment. I phoned the courts in Scotland (L Mcnamara does work at the Scottish court) but was told they are aware of the email, dont know where it came from, to ignore and delete it.
I dont know if its a coincidence but I was unable to log onto my bank in the normal manner. From my banks website someone or something was taking me to a bogus log in page and was asking for my full pin and password to continue with the log in. Usualy I am asked for 3 various digits from my pin and password.

The same sort of scam tried last year to get my log in details so luckily I was aware.

I have spent all day backwards and forwards with online security and the bank getting it sorted.

If you recive this email delete it.

You should a full anti virus scan of your pc.

Personally, I never open any attachments unless I know who the email is from.

Just chant..... Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. It's beats chanting Tory Tory or Labour Labour.

Obviously it's better not tyo open them.  However, and please don't take my word for this, if it's a .doc file, you will almost certainly be safe opening it in Wordpad which is built into many Windows versions.  Wordpad doesn't run the macros that Word does.  Other extensions probably worth avoiding are .exe and .zip.

I have had that done a couple of times last night and today by Guru Aid associated to Mcafee, they said our computer was safe after the first scan but it did not get rid of the bogus log in page. Guruaid have been very helpful and been trying to resolve the issue all day, seems to be ok now.

HMRC and courts don't do things online.
Only local government will send you an email.
Crown or magistrate, it'll come through Royal Mail.
