how to make last resin last much longer
« on: January 26, 2014, 07:25:47 pm »
you need two 15 ltr di one fresh in your van when the tds creeps up to 1 you then put this one on to a outside tap then put a fresh one into your van this way your resin in the van will hardly have to work at all just check the one on the tap now and again to see what the tds is this is the secret when it starts to rise a bit take off the riser and stir the resin it seems to bring the tds down again mine on the tap was at 20 tds gave it a stir came back to 8 tds your resin based on 3000 ltrs a month will last 3 to 4 times longer hope this helps you guys that are di only firefly

Would also work for guys using r.o's. In fact a lot do this!
The reason your tds comes back down after you take the riser off and stir, is that water creates channels in your resin so after a while the water will only pass through these 'channels'
By stiring you are getting rid of them and the rest of the resin is now being used.
Dont know if you need to necessarily need to take the riser off, but if you give both your D.I's a good shake every so often it'll help...
Why don't you have a quick google before making stupid comments?

Been doing this for years.

Twin di set up.

Still cheaper using a RO system though into a holding tank.

Where have you been for the last ten year Firefly?? ;D ;D

If you had both vessels in the van, in sequence & pumped through them both instead of putting mains flow through them- they would last even longer! ;)

This is old hat mate to be honest, I thought you were going to enlighten us to some new super duper resin saving concept!! ;D

Hi winproclean do you mean to put water into tank in van straight from tap and then pump through the two di vessels as you use it to make the system even more efficient, liam .

Lot of hassle all you need to do is give your DI bottle a good shake that will bring the TDS down try it 👳👳👳👍

Possibly a good way to make your resin last longer is to divert the RO water for at least 5 minutes on start up; there is a "spike" in TDS on start up which prematurely depletes the resin in your vessels downstream of the RO kit.
Easiest way to do this is buy a "normally closed" in line solenoid ( eg.240Volt) and install it on the line between RO & resin vessels. A simple 240Volt timer will do the rest, turn the solenoid on, then your water & the solenoid will automatically send high tds RO water to drain, then resume filling your holding tank after 5 minutes or whatever you set the timer to.  If 240 Volt doesn't appeal, you can get low voltage solenoids too. (eg 12 volt, 24Volt etc). This is how the most expensive window cleaning machines maximise resin life.
