Moisture detector
« on: January 25, 2014, 04:13:50 pm »
Hi,
Sounds a bit cheeky but does anyone have a moisture detector They can loan or hire to me for a day?
I have some funny stains appearing on the edge of my ceiling in the kitchen which backs on to the outside wall. It is all starting to crack as well so not sure what the problem is. I thought I might just see if there is any damp in there. I`ll pay for any postage costs etc.
Many thanks...

Clive

You can buy them in the likes of B & Q for about 15 quid. Will be adequate to tell you if its wet or not and you can use it for urine detection on carpets.

Hi Clive if stains are appearing on your ceiling close to the outer kitchen wall check the following:

Blocked or clogged up outer guttering
Check that your ceiling insulation has not got wet in that area by going into the roof due to a leak or gutter overflow

Cheers Steve and William,
I need to check something that`s for sure. As well as the staining all the paintwork has suddenly started cracking. Also there are bubbles appearing in the lining paper. I`m wondering if rain got in somehow during those storms just before Christmas and as its drying out its starting to crack everywhere. We had a flood about 3 years ago and the house was decorated then after it had dried out but I cant see that has anything to do with it. Will check the guttering. The cracking is appearing upstairs and downstairs. All happened in the last month.
