ford connect
« on: January 19, 2014, 01:51:11 pm »
which is the best spec on a ford connect,       ive looked at a couple of these vans and have not been impressed at all.
sluggish, sounding like a tractor ,   not smooth at all.     surelly they are not all like this.     i didnt think they would be so noisy.       im driving a ford 16    estate.    so quiet and smooth driving.

its a good job i am in no rush.

ive viewed 06 plates.  wouldnt even make an offer,    didnt even go for a long drive.    didnt want it.

surelly they arent all like this.

when buying a van what pay load should i be looking for,     upto fitting a 250 - 400 water tank into rear.

They have to be like that to ensure poor mpg.
I hate Ford, always have.

I've got the t230 connect, I love it. Avoid the 70hp, it wouldn't pull the skin off a custard. Go for the 90ps. Mine is smooth and comfortable. It's also the lwb high roof model. This one has a 900kg payload, plenty of room for all your gear.

If you are used to driving a petrol(?) estate, then a diesel van is going to sound pretty noisy in comparison, especially if there is no bulkhead. You can get petrol engined transit connect, i think it is a 1.8, and if you dont do a lot of miles, it might be worth looking for one. From what i have read on the transit forum, the 110bhp tdci is the best engine in terms of economy, not to mention power (always a bonus!), but i dont think there would be a huge difference between it and the 90bhp version. But if you are going diesel, make sure it is a tdci (that is the 90 and 110bhp versions) and not the 75bhp tddi (as well as being a slug, it is noisier and less efficient). But the connect is not especially economical in any guise compared to its rivals, so if you cover a lot of miles you might want to look at a vw caddy or citroen berlingo/peugeot partner. As for which version, as far as i am concerned, go for the lwb high roof, as even though you may not need the extra capacity over the swb now, you may decide to go for a bigger setup down the line and any difference in running costs will be tiny. For a 250l tank, you could use any version, but the 400l tank would be best in a 220 or 230. I have a lwb 230 tdci (90bhp) with a diy 500l setup. I have been using it for over 3.5 years now, it has served me well and never let me down (touchwood!). Average economy is 40mpg, and i drive pretty gently.

pmsl you want to try my combo 1700 no sound proofing no carpets due to it leaking from bulkhead (common problem im told) previous owner just drilled some holes in floor so it drains out ... was a temp van for me but that was 18 months ago now ................. that connect sounds like a rolls royce to me

as other poster says t230 with 90bhp great van

I have the T230 high cube connect, 90ps,  900kg payload, i think its a great little van, i have wfp system with
500 litre tank, but i honestly feel it does struggle a bit on hills with a full tank.

I have a T220  55 reg this is the van I wanted after much research. The problem one will find is because they are good vans owners keep them for ages.So after have high mileage and because they don`t give much trouble they do not maintain them correctly.Hence all the noisy ones on the market and I found the long wheel base even higher mileage\That was the reason I bought a short wheel base.My one is the 90 not a 70 motor. They are built to a spec of a car hence  over engineered van, ask Spruce to back this up.He is the van expert on this forum. If its a small van you wanted look no further but buy a well looked one and there is a lot of crap ones with very high mileage on the secondhand market.Had my one 2 years and only replaced a back light bulb and the back box on the exhaust. She hs a 400 lit tank which she carries with ease.

my estate is a diesel,    smooth,    if i test drive a van and its a growler and sluggish,     i just drive it up the road and back,   no point wasting the chaps fuel.     its on ebay now, they obviously havent test driven it,

ive been trying to haggle on a decent connect,  sounds better than my estate, but price too high i thinks.

05 plate, 45000 mileage,    full spec,     got him down to  £3600+ vat.  from £399+vat    i am right that the vat adds up to an extra £720    taking it upto  £4320.    no printed service history,   all done by the company who had it.    car dealer selling it.
