Am I... Cheap - Too Expensive - Just about right (with pics)
« on: January 19, 2014, 08:45:08 am »
We have a lot of building going on round us, and they plan to do so other the nexy 7 years. It can be hard getting the work on the new housing estates as they are bombarded with leaflets and knockers.

That is the front, its plastic sash windows, rear windows are PLAIN

It is a semi detached house, with NO windows on the side.

The rear has the same amount of glass, but a set of patio doors.

It will be a regular customer.

So prices on 4 weeks and 8 weeks.

I will be honest and reveal my prices later.

price to include ALL windows

let the fun begin  :)

I wouldn't price a customers house from a fuzzy picture and 3 line description so couldn't say for sure.

I don't have any 3 storey houses under £15 though...

£10.

We did some knocking on new estates here a few years back and what happened here was they just got soooo cheap as cleaners wanted as many as possible to make it feasible.  Houses like this were priced by some (we know as people told us when we were knocking) that they were paying £6/£7 for a house like this and 4 bed detached were £10 or less!!
I think the psyche of the cleaners canvassing was get lots next to each other and  you can price cheaper. The day we knocked up we eventually sold on as it ended up being a ball ache, or what felt like it. Doing a house for £8/£10 which you know you would normally charge £15 was too demoralizing, and as better work came in obviously it was getting harder and harder to keep as it was costing us money doing this day if we were behind.
Oooooo that is shiny!!

Yep i know exactly what you mean, we have similar but not to that extreme. I have tried similar. (quoted £10 for a little £12/£14 house and asked for neighbours as well) quickest way to get a low priced round.

My theory is this:  find one priced right. demonstrate that you are good and reliable and put come work on the rest of the street, the book will fill over time..  I find that on the second and third clean in a new street Im getting  a couple of walk ups.. just because they see me coming back.. I also find that on a new street, if its UVPC and fairly grubby. I will always give it a deep clean with G101 as it makes the windows stand out for a few weeks... and lets the neighbours see what they can get from me.. picked up two by doing just that yesterday..

WITHOUT the 3 story window - £12.00

WITH the 3 story window - £15.00

That would be my price on 6 weekly which is what we work at.

i must admit i avoid new estates for at least 12 months, because of the feeding frenzy of window cleaners getting in with there low prices, i then wait till they drop off and go around and pick up the work and at a higher price.
just picked up one on my estate, some of the houses are in the £400,000 bracket(not the one i clean) and this guy was cleaning them for less then £10.00 but his service was poor, well i suppose it reflected the price, i priced at £14.00 on standing order and got it, so price is not everything

I have a minimum price now of £25, so that would be my price. But I do not need the work, as I have plenty of well priced jobs. But if I was starting out and desperate for the work, and I was hoping to get a lot of work on the same estate, I would probably go in at £15- £20. I did this when I first started out, on a new estate, and had almost 100 houses on this one estate. I don't clean any of them now though, as I prefer my well priced work! So don't go in too cheap, because you will soon get fed up of working so hard, for not much money!!

What???? £20 for that and you don't do any of them any more and you had a 100? that house is a 10 min house or less. That would be a £100 an hour  ::)roll

I think he is blagging because in his other thread he says he has to buy a £500 old volvo untill he can afford a van. Being stacked out with £25 houses would mean £500 would be a day or 2 days max work. Maybe he has a big gambling problem or he meant his prices are £2.50 and not £25.
Who knows.

how many of you would pay these prices you are quoting.          imagine sitting in your house on a friday night,  you answer the door, a man says  window cleaner.      that will be £20 please.

tell the truth,    what would your reply be after choking on your tounge. ;D ;D ;D.    your missus is not in.    would you pay.

TRUTH.     if you can get away with these prices good luck to you.      here in the north east   we like to keep hold of our money.
i hate asking them for payment when they owe twice.       especially when they say i didnt get a card.   its as if they think you are trying to pull a fast one.
lots of new areas going up around here.     im ready.  it could be the best thing to happen,    1000s of new houses getting planned in next year or two.               this is the main reason i will be investing in a decent van system.

I would never knock for payment for that at £20, i would hope they pay online. Every time they paid online i would do a little dance ;)

most full houses start at £5  upwards in middlesbrough.      if you get your price wrong there will be someone else canvassing who will do them cheaper.

then put them up ;D ;D ;D
