Why Does This Website 'Hang'?
« on: January 15, 2014, 10:59:41 am »
I don't experience this with many other websites at all.  Sometimes it takes an age for a page to load.  Does anyone know why?  Nat Jones maybe??? ???

Are you using internet explorer?

Most hangs are due to the browser rather than the site - I find Firefox runs MUCH better than IE,..

I would never use explorer. I get hangs, at least one per hour or so. Does not happen on any other site.

This forum is running on VERY old software - this could be a contributing factor,..

I run on Chrome on my PC and Safari on my iPad.  It hangs on both.

It's not a complicated website, surely the software can be updated quickly, easily and cheaply too?

The forum software is free & can usually be updated within an hour,... Its not the most user friendly process admittedly, but its well worth the effort IMO.

Another issue may be that the site is physically hosted on a server in Germany - - a UK host would be better for such a busy forum.

The delay (when it happens) seems to be about as long as a search takes.  I have wondered in the past if searches take higher priority than sending out pages to browsers, causing this delay.

I would bet money on it being too much bandwidth being used and a bigger server is needed.
