I've heard that filing a tax return online is pretty simple so just wondered how many on here do it themselves.

I used to do my own, yes it's very simple really.
I now need proof of earnings etc so I can get a mortgage in a couple of years so I have to pay an accountant to do it but i'd do it yourself and save a few quid if you don't specifically need an accountant.

You don't need an accountant at all. I got a new mortgage in October an I don't have one. You just need two year's returns filed.

Oh yes very simple until you are not sure about a question and you contact the helpline and they are no use at all .

That was my experience a few years back , I used to do my own accounts and tax return  for 8 years but as the years went on it more complicated more so the online form .

At least with a good Chartered  accountant you are certain everything is done right and its peace of mind at least it is for me . Mike

me too, i also did not require an accountant to get a mortgage.  however my work van was effecting my credit score, i needed an accountant to write a letter stating that, the finance was for a work van and my final earnings were after paying for the vans monthly payments.  all obvious but cost me £35.

i never used the accountant after that still prefered to be indipendant

I do my own and my wife's.  Oh and my sisters too. No too tricky. I had some questions last year and got them answered on clean it up. Happy days.

I have a book keeper, and an accountant that does all that for me.

get an accountant to do mine.

saves me the stress, and he knows exactly what i can claim as expenses so should be clear if any investigations.
