Merlin users.

I have tap water of between 50-70 ppm with good tap pressure.

If i had a Merlin, what would the ppm come out as?

I dont want to have to produce water overnight, and, would like a mobile unit to make water for some of my contracts.

Any one help?

Hi There,

One of the Guys who works for us runs his Merlin in his van, the water in our area is about 60-85 ppm TDS on good pressure (65psi-95psi) he manages to get between 100-175litres per hour at about 002-006ppm TDS.

Hope that helps

Thanks,

So it still needs polishing?

And what about servicing, ie. changing membrane?

Hi There,

Yes you would idealy need a polishing unit, whilst 002-006 is usable what a polishing unit will do is take out any peakes in the quailty, for instance on any RO unit when first used the first litre or so will always be at higher rate of TDS but when it has been running for a short while will drop to its lowest reading. The average though on a 250 litre tank is 002-006 which you could probably get away with, but for the sake of a a little more money....

GE Merlin say that the membranes have a life of 2-3 years, with no back flushing. The pre-filter on the merlin would need changing about every 10-20,000 litres of product water.

Is the pre-filter part of the merlin or do you mean if you add a pre filter, if ppm above 80?

The pre-filter I mean is the built in Carbon first stage of the merlin.

How do you tell when it needs changing?

TDS would start to rise and output start to slow. But it would be better to change it at regular intervals so that you kept full protection for those 2 fast membranes
