I have an smax 40, I have upgraded to new clamps - if thats the only difference between the old and the new I am not sure ?
I have also borrowed an smax 50 with old clamps, both are quite bendy at full height but exceptable if only used occasionally for the high stuff on short durations.
Handy for set back 3rd floor dormers, 4th storey and velux ( but with velux depending on roof pitch can be quite heavy and flexy)
The 50 ft is quite long closed and I found it easier to extend the first few sections horizontally on the ground and then extend it vertically else it was a bit of a stretch.
To summarise I'd say its good for the money, it won't be the lightest or most rigid pole ( for that I'd look at the extreme or the modular superlight ) but if its all your budget will allow its a winner.
