2 ½ hose
«
on:
January 06, 2014, 09:53:12 am »
I have just brought a load of cleaning stuff from a friend who is using 2 ½ vacuum hose on his tm and he swears it's the best thing he has done. He is only running a small tm but reckons he is getting much better dry times. The hose look a lot more uncomfortable to run imo. Do you gain any benefits from it or is it a load of American waffle?

Luc they are better and work very well with high end parties as I know having used them on my truck mount and now on my storm but obviously bulkier so a little more hassle but worth it i think. Alan. Swindon

It can be troublesome its not as malleable but it does add some good vacuum it's also supposed to be good for your vac blower as it's not working so hard, I used to put the first length of hose at 2inch then 2.5 there after.

I cannot see the point of going from 2" to 2 1/2". If you have 2 1/2" inlets on your recovery tank then you would benefit from using 2 1/2" hose then reducing to 2" towards the wand or by going 2 1/2 straight to the wand.
I did not want to carry 2 different diameters of hose so had an additional 2" hose connection put onto my recovery tank, I can run 2 lengths of vac hose side by side using a y connector to go down to single 2 ". The difference over a long run is noticeable. It also allows me to use 2 separate tools for upholstery.

Shaun do you mean you run 2.5 hose from the van and then normal 2inch hose to the wand?
Peter are you running 4 to the door like the Americans advise on the tmf forums?

Luc yes, you need a 2 inch wand to compliment it though, Peter it does make a difference believe me.

Where did you buy your hose and fittings from? Would it make a difference on a tm like a boxer 318? I have a 2inch evo wand and a 1.75 westpak wand I generally use 2inch all the way and that makes a huge difference overa 1.5 whip line.

I will run up to 150' side by side on a long run. But do not bother doubling up on day to day stuff very often.
Shaun
by going down from 2 1/2 to 2'you are putting a restriction into the run so will not feel the full advantage.
It is a bit like putting a 1 1/2" inline filter into a 2" hose run it will reduce the performance.
I have played about with different configurations and a vac meter at the wand end.
It is the same as running 2" hose if your vac from the recovery tank is only 1 1/2".
Yes you will get less friction on the airflow but the differences gained are so negligible that it will be barely noticeable. Certainly not in my opinion worth the inconvenience of carry the 2 1/2" hose in the first place.
To get the full benefit you need the extra diameter throughout the system.

Luc I had hydramaster do a 2.5" conversion from vac tank and run first 10ft 2.5 makes a significant difference. You can get all the cool cuff attachments from HM. The vac inlet has to be opened up or pointless.

Or get a bayco valve from hydra master, only reason I stopped doing this was because there was enough vac there to begin with, the beauty of bigger tms are that they don't labour and have endless amount of super heat with flow, god I wish I had a Titan!

It's a matter of adding a bit of everything each component makes it more efficient IMO if you are going to do it go the who hog, one piece doesn't show enough difference on its own.

How do you rate it?
I read Dave Ingram saying good things about them..
I thinking about going for a water cooled engine next, is that air cooled or water cooled?

Air cooled.
Water cooled last longer and are quieter if I thought it were good value for money (obviously I don't) I'd have a vw or merc and have it speed lined then have a Titan in it, reason for a big named van is that they last longer so you'd get longer out of your speed liner and shelving without buying new again bit like Susan's pic she put on.
There's a guy about 20 miles from me who has a Titan 875 with that set up cost him I believe £75k kitted out with all wands and rx20 etc

Simon Gerrard? lol.
Promount looks good, it's also 2,500 psi pump I believe, that would be good for hard floor.
They look good value.
