Does anyone have any experience of cleaning with a Dry Ice Medium? If so what machine?  Thoughts? Results?  Does anyone actually own one and use it?

Results . Very good in some cases.

The one we were using was considerably bigger than that ..but i would imagine the same principle.We were blasting a rabbit on the "clean side" of a reactor. It was then "frozen" and the ring was heated up using induction heating.
They are then dropped onto on another and when they get back down to ambient they are stuck tight ..shrink fitting.
Don't know what you are thinking regarding the market ..but it would be ideally suited for the food industry and such like places anywhere there would need to be a quick clean up (in-terms of used media).

I think if you were thinking about using it for removing sealer from floors you would need to be very careful in if the sealer was harder than the tile/floor it was attached too . You would end up ripping the floor apart. A different set of problems would occur if the sealer was softer(to a lesser degree).
I am guessing as i have never used dry ice on a coating.

To be fair the blasting we did was not really needed and we removed next to F*** all! We just ensure that the surfaces were spotless before they went together.

I am aware of the Karcher system but it is a little down in the rankings compared to other systems available.  I was just trying to get a general feel if anyone had any preferences who had REALTIME EXPERIENCE in this field on the CIU.  I have been looking at two systems for some time now and both claim to be better than each other I just wondering which one to go with.  I think it has a serious future in the cleaning industry.  I have just seen a religious building that was done using it.  It was quoted for 5-6 months work using a conventional system and it took just under 4 weeks using the Ice Blasting system.  I have to say I was very impressed.  I can see it as a serious add on to our restoration business at Marblelife Ltd.

I have used one on internal stone, marble and a few carved soft stones and  the karcher system was fine and buying the ice pellets was no problem

OK great input. Perhaps I need to revisit the Karcher range given your experience. As a matter of interest was it 3mm media you used? What did it cost to rent mate and for how long?

Get them all to come and demo their systems on what ever you are thinking of cleaning. It well might be good at some surfaces and crap at others. I doubt whether it would be 6 times faster than a "conventional" system .

Soda blasting does a similar job and the medium can be stored unlike the dry ice.

Kevin what are you wanting to use if for? I think the main plus for them is they are ideal for use where water and pressure washing is not an option, i know they are used a lot on the underground trains for removing chewing gum and grime.  Expensive to buy, expensive to run, but you can charge stupid money if you have one.

I think they have a lot of potential and will compliment my Floor Restoration Business no end.  They seem particularly good in Fire Restoration, Wall Cleaning to mention just two things.  I like the idea of there being no media clean up or recovery.  I have been looking at them for a while now but your right they are expensive but the biggest shock so far is the cost of the Diesel Compressor you need to run it!

Just got back from Germany. Will be taking this on as a 3 way business by adding it to our own profile for Marblelife Ltd. Then retailing and renting out the equipment as well as supplying the ice. We will also be offering a full training programme once I complete my Instructor Training in the next few months.

Used dry ice in the foundry industry to clean the dies that make metal castings, to remove carbon, , before the ice they used sand and grit to do that job.,
Bonus was no clean up time, and as good as, and compared to grit and sand cheaper.

The ice used to come in polistreine boxes and was then blasted through a normal shot blaster ,spray gun type thing using compressed air,
