1st truckmount ! Which van mwb/lwb
« on: January 05, 2014, 02:55:43 pm »
Hi all
I've decided that at some point this year I will be entering into the truckmount world.
I've been looking at many vans and I know it comes down to weight etc.
What I would like to know is with lwb vans do you guys have issues with parking ect

Thanks
Steve

Which tm are you getting? That depends on which van also how much bits you want to carry.

As Glynn says a 3.5 tonne van, you'd be suprised how much it all weighs once you get all your stuff on there. You can carry a bit more on a mwb than a lwb and in my opinion a mwb carries the weight better especially if you have a sub mount tank as the bulk of the weight is right between the wheels not more to the front as in a lwb.

You may need to upgrade the rear leaf springs. I did in my Ducato.

I'm concerned that if I get a lwb I might have issues with access and parking

Mines a Vito 115 with blazer and I don’t carry every thing! But upgrade the rear spring! Parking it not a problem and it go under the barriers ;D

I was jumping the gun a little but if you get a very big tm you need a very big van, like Glynn I have a 3.5 ton van in my case a vauxhall movano mwb.

Don't be fooled by the stated truckmount weights either, because they are dry weights.
Once the water box, chemical jug and the heat exchangers are full it can add up to another 100 KG and thats not including the fuel tank and it's contents.

You'll curse lack of space much more often than you'll curse difficulty parking - get lwb.

I agree with the lwb, anything smaller would be a constant headache

Sorry should have said mines lwb not the extra long AND I don’t carry any air movers. (Why would I)

Glynn is right re because they are dry weights.

Steve, if you are concerned about access / parking etc why don't you pop down the road and hire a LWB from Robinson Goss near Shipston, should only cost around £50 for the day and then drive to the last 5 properties that you did and see if you can access them :)
