« on: January 04, 2014, 08:11:02 pm »
What's the law with running a van into London
been offered a bit of work in the centre  and heathrow area but not sure what can be driven up there these days
Looking for a new van at the moment  so need something that will comply
Looking at something like a nemo doblo kangoo size

looked on the website but come away more confused

Everything (within reason)
You just have the congestion charge to pay.
If you're only going in infrequently, it would be uneconomical to buy a van purely based on those few journeys.
Buy a van you like, pay the charge. It's all tax deductible bud

A lot depends is yours a transit type pre 2001 probably!!!! http://www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/lez/17700.aspx#container
Just type in your reg and they will tell you, congestion charge has nothing to do with it that’s extra! Think it’s tenner

It's a tenner bud. 7am to 6pm.
Vehicles that emit less than 75g/km CO2 are free.
I don't know of any vans that are that low, but to be honest i've not really looked.
Cant see a Nemo, Bipper or something like that emitting much though...
Or, I think there's a 1.3 Doblo?

It talks about weight as well
I had to a job in heathrow a week before Xmas and took my old  c15  up there
on they way home I thought  f●●k  it  Ive been in a lez zone  I think I was still outside the congestion zone  - it was in terminal 1 I was working
according to the site you get warning in writing for a first strike which I still ain't got nothing threw then it's a 200 quid fine every time you enter without registering and paying the charge if you have a vehicle that does not comply

I can't work out if small vans are exempt

I went into London in a 98 Toyota hiace paid my congestion charge and then got a 100.00 fine two weeks later. I think larger vans must be registered after 2007

Vans need to be Euro 3 engine or higher unless the are below 1.205 tonnes unladen.  TBH the Euro 1 & 2 vans are getting on a bit so if the job is worth doing I'd think more about the age of the van rather than the size.

TFL have an LEZ compliant vehicle checker.

I've been led to understand that even if your van isn't compliant, the modification doesn't cost that much.

Isn't the fine now £200 a day or something like that?

yes it's 200 a day fine
Had a look at the vehicle checker on the lez site
● typical government a big disclaimer on there basically saying  enter your details but it's not guaranteed the info it spits back  is correct and  can't be relied on
Boris the bike wil then fine you 200 quid
There's a phone number on there i think I'll give it a ring monday
