Thats the thing, we dont get 25 days payed holiday a year, we dont get paid the 8 bank holiday days in the year, we don get paid the 2 weeks over christmas.
Thats 56 days roughly give or take that we dont get that we would being employed.
Self employed has its cons as well as its pros.
All i know is im happy in what and how i do it so happy days.

56 days you are having a giraffe sir michael i never had more than 30 days
ever and that was with bank holidays

End of the day we all pays our money and take a chance, what you say above
is right but i prefer to look at it as i dont work twelve hour days anymore
and the hours i do work more than compensate for the above.

when i get a shift on and take more work on from sept-dec and work
weekends its so i can put my feet up as i am now till the end of the first
week in feb...im benefitting from my endeavour not some employer
or shareholder and its mostly on my terms.

All the ins and outs of it all is irelevant far as im concerned
but it is easy for me to say that as im just a self employed window
cleaner no major business or employees to worry about.

Keeping it simple is sweet for me :)

I was guestimating the amount but even 30 is an awful lot although im sure its more though as im sure i used to get 25 days paid holiday then 1.5-2 weeks at xmas and new year roughly and the 8 bank holidays!! Was a long time ago though so i could be wrong.

25 days and we had to keep 5 for xmas,so iwas wrong 28 in total ;D,as for sick pay you are lucky
these days if you have a decent contract that gives you full sick pay
rather than statutory sick pay which is £50-£60 a week and with the ever
increasing popularity of temp and zero hour contracts with employers
we really are better off far as im concerned doing what we do.

Thought you had January off Gazza?
You can't say you only have another 25 days off for the whole year! Surely?

yep off right now until the end of the first week feb, supposed to
be in san miguel right now but got sodding man flu :( will meet the
missus out there end of next week instead.

i take odd days off for long weekends and fishing trips throughout
spring and summer ad obviously days when weather is too extreme
to work, otherwise i just crack on, especially during autumn

i;m not sure bulgarians are the most likely people to read this forum and then pick up work.

i;m also not sure that too many non window cleaners will read this forum and think 'wow what a great job to have'.  there are a lot of better businesses out there and a lot of better jobs.  window cleanings has it's advantages and disadvantages, like any business

fin clearview bulgarians WILL NOT be nicking your work anytime soon!its a myth.if you do a good job for a fair price you wont lose any.

as for brand new vans falling apart after 3 years.your having a laugh surely!!

my van is 14 years old and cost me £1400 nearly 4 YEARS ago!!granted i only do 2500-3000 miles a year due to very compact work but its still going!!used day in/day out and probably overweight first thing in the morning! ;D

i reckon if you have £25,000-£30,000 clear profit after all expenses and taxes are deducted your doing well as a self employed window cleaner working on your own. ;)

price higher/work harder!

I am not going to tell anyone here what I earn. That is between me and the tax man. I fail to understand why this question continues to come up, other than give some the opportunity to puff out the chest and say that they are doing better than whoever, or if we are earning less we are doing something wrong.

I am in this game to earn a wage and support my family. Nothing more, nothing less. I earn what I need to earn and I work in my own way to achieve these objectives.

and what do you earn a day ?
I take on average about £260 a day 11 months usually obviously summer is better winter is worse so have to average but summer can do £280-£320 plus and winter varies massively £190-£280 depending
Why on earth would you talk about the finances of your business to a bunch of strangers on the internet, what do you hope to gain from this  ???
nothing to hide from anyone can all be found on companies house if anyone was that interested anyway but I see your point! ::)roll
only limited companies and even then it isnt a full accounts and can be ajusted

If you are in it to make a wage to support your family that's fine and it makes sense that this type of thread isn't interesting for you.

If however you're approaching this industry as a business and are trying to maximise profit, and build something bigger....  Then daily takings are very important.

Neither approach is right or wrong, but they do make your focus different :)

I absolutely agree. What I don't get is why anyone feels the need to disclose their earnings on a public forum. Our aspirations and circumstances all differ, so why should knowledge of each others earnings be of interest to anyone but the one who comes up with the highest figure?

It seems to me that it would be of more benefit to those who are trying to maximize their profits by looking at their current income to expenses ratio, and looking at ways of increasing the percentage thereof, and asking the knowledgeable guys on here how they do it, rather than state their actual income publicly which is meaningless unless accompanied by actual outgoings.

Yes Cozy did. He charges £30 for a half hour in the back of a black cab. He does supply condoms for that price apparently though.

Each to their own, I guess windows isn't the only thing Cozy licks.
