No offence mate but you ain't half got a lot to say for yourself for someone who's left the forum???

Geezer said he invested 30k! What's the problem?

I haven't left the forum - just the industry!

The "problem" is that the average guy on here won't be thinking even near the 30K region of investment - its a simple addon for an existing round which can be achieved very easily & with minimal investment. I have done this personally & found it to be a great success in my business!

Hi Mick,

In reply to your message, I would say (as people have said on here) that getting enough business is they most difficult bit, as with any new venture.

If you have a decent client base for windows then that would be a good starting point, although that would probably only produce some of the work you need. If you are using it as an add on to your windows and you don't spend too much to start with, then its pretty straight forward, just let you customers know that you are now providing this service, as well as the other work you do for them.

You would need to advertise/leaflet drop etc. do get some decent levels of business I feel.
As for how often, I would say every 12 months, some only have it done every 24 months, not done any 6 monthly.

All in all, as others have mentioned, it is worth it as an add on and see how it goes before you spend a fortune on it. It will know doubt depend on the area where you cover and what competition there is in that area etc...

Hope that helps

Cheers

Steve

Mick is in my area and its saturated with pikeys doing it. I even had them ripping me off posing as me! I thought I could make it work with my 1500+ customers and it never, even was offering promotional discounts and only a few jobs came from it. I now stick to window cleaning, it pays about the same and a lot less hassle!

Hi Simon ... yup passed on the kit to another lad and was looking at getting a zeta however current thinking is to massively grow the windows side this year and put all my effort into that then set up a totally seperate power washing business as dont really work (i.e. making proper money) treating it as an add on service

spent just short of 3k last year and recouped twice that much during the summer months only, it's a great add on and will always be there once you have the kit,
you won't go wrong with a Honda gx390 and a flat surface cleaner..!

I guess it does depend a lot on your area - I was lucky because by be the pikeys are actually really expensive (and do a terrible job) - so I could undercut whilst still getting 50% more than a day on the windows,.. and once you do a good job your reputation quickly spreads,...

I appreciate the effort you must have exerted in taking the high ground there mate.

Your bang on though pal, you are very lucky. Dare you to say that to a "pikeys" face? I'd love to see how lucky you were.

Mick don't bother, it's too hard to get the work. I invested 30k into that side of the business and only done a few jobs. If you wanna buy some stuff then all my equipment is like new.

30k??

A very good pressure washer AND all the extras will cost less than £2k - maybe an extra £500 for top of the line waterproof workwear.

If you target your existing customer base and offer it as an addon "rainy day" job to keep earnings consistent when the weather is too bad to do windows,.. you just can't go wrong.

My setup paid for itself within 3 weeks of purchase - and I must say there's a LOT more job satisfaction in pressure washing, the dirtier the job the better as you leave the house totally transformed.

+1

In person I might refrain from using the term Pikey - which over here is "Traveller" anyway,.. but I was modifying my language to be better understood by the majority of CIU users who are based in the UK.

As for telling them they're doing a terrible job - i'd not have a problem saying it to their face. I've seen multiple cases of them not just dong a bad job, but actually causing damage. Unfortunately the ones that do the worst jobs don't ever hang around for feedback - they're up & gone before you realise!

That said - I have met members of the travelling community who do a top notch job,.. they are in the minority, but I do apologise if it cam across that I was over generalising.

Hi BVC, this post started with someone asking advice about an add on 'pressure washing', several forum members gave their advice including Nathanael, who incidentally has given a lot of good advice to a lot of members including myself
on this forum. So he said the travelers dont do a good job and are expensive, you could say the same about a lot of other people in our business, there are good & bad in all trades, all this fighting talk you need to chill out.

Hi,
Personally i find it a good add on service with a lot of of customer satisfaction, instant wow factor if you like.
However i find it very seasonal, you can be very busy from May through to about August especially if its a decent summer.
Then it goes quiet again.

Absolute bull mate. In person I guarantee you would refrain from using the word "pikey"

And the insinuation that the majority of ciu users don't know what a traveller is simply shows at best you think your a bit of an authority and at worst you think ciu users are thick.

If your gonna call a spade a spade, so to speak, at least own it. Don't blame other peoples lack of intelligence (perceived on your part) for having to use those words and don't be offended when others exercise their right to be offended. i.e ME!

And yes you've helped a lot of people on here, offered a lot of advice but I think your first comment re £30k pw was very sarcastic, like I said unless you two have previous it was out of order. Secondly I didn't like the way you completely generalised the entire travelling community by your remarks and then tried to soften the blow by saying you have met a couple of "good uns" If another member spoke that way about any other community they would have been slaughtered, if not banned from the site. Now I like a joke like the next man but that was simply another level.

This completely highlights the level to which we are divided to the core as people. We all want to be judged on our own merits but we are not prepared to return the favour. Even to the degree that we are fully prepared to voice those opinions on a public forum. Until we treat everyone with the respect we demand for ourselves we are all as bad as each other.

Nathaniel I'm sure your a stand up guy and didn't "mean" it. So lets draw a line under it. You've got a choice you can spend the next couple minutes trawling through my post trying figuring out how to get the last word or you can take it on he chin and show you truly believe that knowledge is wealth and that we never stop learning.

Peace.

Bvc.
