I forgot to add - when I wanted a really light rigid pole, there weren't any at that time. I bought a fibreglass 21' pole and threw it to the back of my garage in disgust after a week. I bought a fibreglass 17' extender pole that lasted five weeks. The stuff available then was utter garbage. Geoff hit on the idea of fishing poles - brilliant!...... but they just weren't strong enough.

Ironically Matts pole of choice is a 25' Slx - even he must have seen the light.

yep totally agree with both posts..the simple fact is the industry
caught up with and now surpassed the original ideas of the
diyers, but without the likes of Mr brimble etc things wouldnt of moved along as quickly as they have...afterall wasnt alex
gardiners first poles fishing pole sections and the brush of choice
was a bentley sweeping brush this gave him the foot in the door
he needed and he has developed and redeveloped from there
as his business moved on.

wouldnt of happenedwithout the originality of thought by jeff and others.

To lay all the praise and responsibility for what has happened
in such a short time at one doorstep..personally is wrong and disrespectful.

I still diy and my poles are better than any supplier
well for me anyway ;D

Why didn't Geoff brimble pursue it and produce and sell it . Are you suggesting Alex picked his brains and then brought it to market !!! .
I heard that Geoff pretty much was the Brains behind all the original Wfp poles
But whatever has happened , Alex has done the industry proud

It's Jeff not Geoff.
And I believe he was involved with modular fishing poles, and don't think he produced a telescopic pole with clamps that most of us use today.
No disrespect to Jeff Brimble but there's no earth shattering design or technology involved to convert a modular fishing pole into a modular wfp pole.

Alex was at it way before JeffB, Alex was building systems for people & all sorts. JeffB might have pointed a thing or two out about minor DIY efforts but has nothing to do with whether Alex would have made it or not. No disrespect to JeffB but he's cobbled a few bits & bobs together in his shed over the years- none of which have had any retail success.

I will lay wfp development at the door of Gardiners anyday, to suggest otherwise is ludicrous, it's been there for all to see!! ;)

The debate is not who did the first Ross if you hadn't noticed?

Same as the debate is not to do with whether anyone should buy a pole from China or not- that's their choice.

back then he was first to exploit the idea for himself
for a really light pole..could be wrong but dont think anyone
else was thinking that way at time. As ideas go its not a big
leap from a modular pole to a telescopic one either is it :)

i remember jeff brimble and others messing around with ideas
of telescopic poles from flag poles and all sorts.

I used to use several forums and they were all definately
more interesting back then to read than the arguing over
facelift versus gardiners etc etc etc.

Don't go yet you scoundrel!!!  ;D

The forums were more interesting back then because we didn't have what we have now. New WFP'ers don't know they're born today!! Alex himself has been hounded over the years by us lot demanding he develops this & that. To his credit he took it all on board too.

There's no real need for it these days, everything we could need is there on a plate, at a great price & delivered the very next day after just a few clicks! :)

Your little green light's never gone out Gary- admit it, ya cannae help it!! ;D

I DIY my wagtail pads.

I can't use 90 degree brush sockets either- it's just not right! I can't make use of the quick-loc system because I have to fit my brushes with 45 degree angles- swivels work better at this angle too.

I've had two clamps come loose in all this time & I DIY'd them with tape (the wedge method), so good was the fix that I've never actually re-glued them two years on!! ;D

I draw the line at poles though. £264 (inc' vat) for a new SLX25 INC' brush, neck, hose & connector- delivered next day!!! Man that's one serious bargain in my eyes!! :o The CLX shouldn't even be a consideration with these prices on the SLX range.

I don`t care who made, who claimed the best poles. All I know is I will use the best pole I can afford, after all they are just tools. No worth arguing about. You chaps need to get back to work. To much holiday time. 5 pages of nonesense.

actually if it wasnt for jeff brimble and his ideas that
alex gardiner originally borrowed from then moved on
we would still be using lead pipes, well the progress would
of been slower anyway ;)
whoa gary, glad you posted the truth on this,it tends to get overlooked that this whole idea came from someone else not the guy who some want to have his babies etc, your well connected i think?

Yes- wfp stands for "water fed pole"

Development- the process of developing or being developed - evolution, growth, progress, success. ;)

Ionics could hardly produce a wfp without r & d, development, etc.

Wanna bet? did you ever use an early Ionic pole??

Read my last post very carefully & understand each word- otherwise it's pointless responding.
