Glass fiber resin mixture problem.
« on: December 26, 2013, 07:10:44 pm »
Hi guys

I know this is silly, but I fiber glassed back of my van today, and I think I didn’t put enough hardener in to the resin when I mixed it.  ::)roll
It’s been more than 4 hours now and the resin still not hardens, is this normal or have I messed it up?

Is there a way to put it Right? Or do I have to scrape all that resin and start again? It will be messy job.  :-\

I think H20cleaning is the expert in this, but any one else can help?

Hi Dave
Yes I have since warmed up the van, and most of it has dried out but not all of it.

Hi David
I didn’t put enough hardener, and I realise that after I spread the resin on the floor, yes I know made a silly mistake.  :-\

If it's going off after you put some heat in then it sounds very favorable. You vary the amount of hardener according to the temperature and the baseline figure is an air temp of 15-20c. As long as you mixed the hardener completely with the resin then even with a very small amount the resin will cure - the problem comes when some of the resin doesn't mix with the hardener - in that case it will NEVER go off.
Sounds likes it shaping ok though - plenty of warmth throughout the whole van as you've already done and hopefully all will be well in a day or so.

This is a great advice,  :)
What I have done now, I mixed up more resin with right amount of hardener and brushed in on top that exciting one, and put a new fan heater in the van, hopefully this will do the job, will check it in 2 hours to see the outcome.

Like EandM says as long as its mixed, whenever I've done it just
shut van doors and left it for min 24 hrs no probs, I just pour
hardener in don't measure amount  ;D

After i put the second layer of resin with the right amount of hardner and right amount of heat in the van, its come out great  :)
By the way guys do you know which paint to paint it on ?
Apparently there is a special paint for finer glass that you can brush it on.
