wait til it's dark then egg their windows; they'l be on the phone the next morning to you then charge a premium. ;D

Just let it go this time Pure but if you want this time or if they mess about again give them your bank details and tell them however you like that it is standing order from now.

If you don't see funds in your account on date specified then tut tar.

That way you've done all you can and you can walk away knowing they are 100% messers and well rid off

If my window cleaner handed me that I'd politely tell him to go forth & multiply!! ::)roll I'd also expect the same if I handed it to them too!!
There are a few odd terms, but other than that I don't see what's wrong with the principle.

If you need to hand that to your customers/potential customers, then there's a bigger problem to begin with!
What's that then?

I particularly like item 21 on the south window cleaning ltd terms and conditions.

'We reserve the right to amend these terms and conditions without notice'

So after giving the customer this long list of do's and dont's, right at the end you are effectively saying that all of the above may or may not be the case at any given time?! ???

It takes no balls to hand over a tome of terms and conditions.  No-one's going to read it to start with.

What takes balls is just speaking honestly, calmly, and politely to a customer if you think you're being treated unfairly.

Hiding behind a bit of paper isn't 'balls'.

I reckon tosh above is right, BUT the prob is u dont know what goes on behind closed doors, i.e death in the fam, lost job, spilt up, etc etc which would be fair enough. BUT if they just think window cleaning is not important right now, then thats where you have to draw a line! I feel that using your instincts on it, is the best way to go, if u feel there taking the p then drop them, or make a call on it and take the knock on it 4 this time if u think its genuine, AND its a good job, plus you've got lots of jobs across the road and next door 2 them etc etc. But if it was a poop job anyway i would use there f***ing about as a excuse to drop them. ;)

So Toshing you are good to spend a lot of time telling your customers honestly what you will expect of  them on cancellations,  payment, none payments, bacs, gates closed, window closing, . etc etc etc etc . you are joking.Sounds more like a balls up to me.
Just to set the record right I said its takes balls to write T & C as I know just to well, the chain gang will rip it apart.
Try telling all the other businesses that have T C its not a good idea. Run a business like its a business and you will be taken more seriously.

I don't spend much time explaining anything these days.  I've been going for about 11 years now; if I can't manage a customer to meet my expectations, I drop them.

I have no problems explaining to a customer when I think they're being unfair; but I find most folk to be decent.

How come in 3: you say you clean on a 6 weekly basis, yet on your website you say "cleaned every 8 weeks, NOT every month"
Does that contradiction alone not make the whole thing questionable?

You have to admit he does have a point if not taken to excess.

And like he (and Miss Hynde) says in his other post you're back on the chain gang, back on the train, so don't start bulling like all the other pretenders on here.

I think I see what your point is, but I've found that, in this game, the answer is always "Get more work". When you have too much work and can't keep up, any customer who gets upperty or stroppy or messes you about, you weed 'em out and keep going.
When you haven't got enough work, then you find yourself bending to fit anyone and everyone. In my opinion, for what it's worth, if any windy tried to get me to read an A4 piece of paper full of this rule and that rule and blah blah blah, I'd tell the guy "No thanks" I'll use the other 1000,000 who don't make me stick to some un-enforcible waffle.

People see window cleaning as a service, but not as life and death. In the end, if YOU don't clean them, someone else will, and without an A4 bit of paper. People need to get the basics right. Get customers, and stop trying to make customers bend to fit your inability to put more customers into your business.

Keep things simple. Works for me. HTH
No still don't understand, I must be thick

There are 3 immediate problems I can see with this, !. Where is the signature line for signing by the customer? 2. Would anyone bother reading all that? 3. If I was the customer I wouldn't take them on, at the end of the day it's just a window cleaning service, our uncles who used chamois wore flat caps and did window cleaning to earn a bit on the side would turn in their graves.

Most time a customer who is a good customer will take the pee and it makes it a little more reasonable when you can refer to your T&C.99% its stops them and a good customer is kept on.If we just walk this good customer is lost forever.
I had a customer last year not pay and after 9 months settled with a invoiced amount 25 quid my T+C made it possible to get a further 55 pound of  her without sweat.I tell you the next windy she uses, they will not try that one again.
It is short sited to see yourself as one business out there on your own, but rather as one of a group within a industry. If you want to spend your lifetime in a industry why not better that industry for all.
I don`t like to blow my own trumpet but I did spend 4years at the University of
Stellenbosch studying for A Degree in Commercial science. I am retired and enjoy window cleaning now as a way to provide stress free, easy money, extra income for my home.
I do appreciate other views but believe me this industry will grow up sooner or later and I am afraid bigger Companies will just push us aside as there is plenty of money to be made in cleaning while we squabble about T&C.If we do not rise to the level that large companies project.
If you have dough's, look at the large window cleaning business that have robbed us of a big slice of your shop/commercial cleaning. So many of us clean these shops as subbies were we were once the man making the real money.

And all you chaps to small minded to move up a notch and be more professional and business minded.Dream well while Rome burns.Let rather argue about T+C and slip into the small time game of subbing were we work for pennies not pounds. Leave T+ C for the big guys your domestic business is next on the big list to acquire. I do not for this reason sub from no monkey as I will be next on there menu for lunch.
