Staff pay
« on: December 15, 2013, 09:17:19 am »
I have six part time staff now and just wanted to get an idea of what people are paying their staff.

All my staff do general cleaning, although some do weekend work, some travel far distances, and some do between the hours of 10pm and 6am.

I want to keep them happy, I don't want them resenting working for money they are not happy with.

I'm after an idea of what people pay for out of hours, normal hours, far distances, weekends, bank holidays. Any bonus you pay, and what people give as bonus at Christmas.

Cheers

I just think employers don't really want to discuss what they pay employees on an open forum.  I certainly wouldn't anyway!

You need to take into account local pay and conditions for the type of work in and around your own area.  An employer in the South East will be paying differently to someone elsewhere.  Look at local jobs being advertised to gauge local pay rates for your sector and of course consider the number of hours worked per day, the location of the contracts, late evening or night time jobs.  There are lots of factors to take into account and if you feel it is a fair wage and is comparable to other local rates in your area you can't go far wrong.

It's discussed freely on the window cleaning section Kevin, so I don't see why it can't be here. I do understand people wouldn't want to though, just thought someone would.

If I wanted to see what a local rival was paying I would just look at their job advert, like I do whenever I advertise a job, I just want to know what works for some people.

Thanks for your response Dawn, I typed the above before I read. I know there will be differences geographically, however minimum wage is minimum wage regardless of were you are (let's exclude London), I was more looking for things like 'we pay above minimum wage, time and a half for weekend or unsociable hours and 50% weeks wage for Christmas bonus or attendance bonus'

Hey ho I'll figure it out myself.

What I said was my opinion only. I am not saying it is not discussed it is just something I would not be happy to discuss.

Yea I know Kev I wasn't having a go. I do understand some people keep these private, but I know some people are wiling to discuss. Hence the question.

What makes you think the south east is any better off ? Its far from true because we're plagued with the eastern europeans under cutting and going in where paying the minimum would be uneconomical.
I don't employ anyone on the books - mine are self employed
