either regtransfers or dvla registrations. Dvla are cheaper than any other site.

Like Mr Souter, I have always thought private number plates to be naff, especially the ones where it is supposed to spell out a name, but doesn't (unless you are drunk and standing some distance away).

A long time ago, I used to work for a Saab dealer, the boss was obsessed with private number plates, all the demo's, and the parts van, had plates with some reference to Saab. Unfortunately, due to the combinations of numbers and letters available back then, most just had 'sab'!.

However, a demo's, run by one of the salesmen, had what was in my opinion, the best combination of number plate to car. The car in question was a classic shape Saab 900 turbo 16S, the plate on it was FLY 900T!

From my point of view that is a cost to your business that will never benefit you or earn its money back....

So why?

Private plates and some of the more unique ones are very good investments.
The price of plates has only gone up over the years.
From a business view they can make your vans stand out.the pimlico plumbers vans look good round London and it makes people notice them.

Is looking flash a good thing though? I changed insurance broker because the flash twit turned up with a personalized number plate. I mean, I felt I was being ripped off anyway (as I'm sure most of us do when buying insurance), his £1000+ number plate confirmed it for me.

I'd imagine there are customers out there who would think the same way.

Years ago I lost a job cause 'my' van was being serviced.
Boss lent me his box fresh Vito.
Customer said if you can afford to drive a merc I'm paying you too much.
He dumped me there & then.

While I don't agree with his small market town thinking.
There is a fine line between looking 'flash' and taking pride/being professional.
Where that line is, is very individual.

That surprises me.

IF you got a good deal in the first place and IF you haven't had to move it from car to car (i'm sure the dvla charge you each time) too many times. Maybe then you might make some money off it, otherwise I'd have thought all the profit is made by the dealers who buy them off the dvla and sell them on.
