Are the frames showing any sign of wear?

Like if you rub your finger down them does it leave a residue on your finger?

Newly painted frames?

Maybe you didn't scrub enough. We had those strong winds last week and they could have made a mess of the windows.

I've never ever managed to totally eliminate spotting on wooden windows, or windows with wooden frames  ;D  I even get them on my own house. I just live with it, the overall job is good.

Try just cleaning the glass then and not the frames?

TBH i rarely clean wooden frames as its pointless most of the time.

I think i clean ONE house that has tip top windows and frames.

The rest are rotten, broken, badly in need of painting or just bare wood and no paint  :o

I have two houses with wooden windows, exactly same age and both varnished and well maintained and about every 4th clean the spot like crazy and i just cannot work it out.
I try to miss the top sections out and that seems to work but not 100%

Clearasil should do the trick
Why don't you have a quick google before making stupid comments?

The other issue is the putty that holds the window in. That also causes these problems.

We have a property of 10 flats that have wooden window frames.

The first time we did them they were a nightmare but slowly got better after a few cleans. They then had the window frames painted and the first couple of cleans after that were also a nightmare with spotting. The body corporate took the painters to court as they used a cheap undercoat to save money instead of what they specified.

The painters were forced to repaint them, and we had spotting issues for the next couple of cleans again. So it would appear that new paint is also a cause of spotting. The windows are fine now, but they are due for repainting next year so we expect the cycle again.

I've been doing the windows of a restaurant for a few years. The downstairs is done trad but the 1st floor I do wfp and it's large Victorian sized wooden sash windows.

I've tried cleaning them every which way, and due to location they cannot be done trad off a ladder, but some weeks they still spot badly. I've never worked out why and the place has had several paints jobs so it's not the paint.

How to clean "spotty" windows. When spotting is caused by painted frames, putty or perished seals.

Top frames first (if frames need doing)

Glass

Cill

Then go back to the top of the glass and turn the flow down so that there is little pressure but just enough to pencil onto the glass (a fan jet will "pencil" if turned low enough) accurately run the water fractionally below the top seal so that the water rinses from that point with no splashing or spray reaching the top frame or masonry.

If Georgian windows, gently rinse on low pressure each pane.

Obviously no "milk runs" please, we are British!

Job's a good 'un.

It's a game of three halves!

Had this on a house in Lyme Regis that I had cleaned many times. TDS was around 2-3 and the house was cleaned and rinsed as usual - had spots on most windows, but more on the south facing side and steaks at the edges of many. No other houses cleaned on the same day had any issues and I went back, re-cleaned and all was fine.
I'm wondering if there any other external factors that come in to play: excess presence of salt due to the proximity of the sea, unusual atmospheric pressure, contaminates carried by weather fronts or just general weirdness ?
Eight years now wfp with nearly 100 % houses cleaned with no issues - just the occasional weird one.

The restaurant I always have problems with almost faces the sea and that's what I put it down to - sea salt.
