Single 'A' frame ladders for modern retail units.
« on: December 06, 2013, 10:56:17 am »
Looking to buy a single 'A' frame to clean modern (quite high) retail units.

A bit of a newb question as I've never owned and 'A' frames and don't do much retail cleaning either.

Would these be up to the job or should I be looking at something better or taller?

I would suggest not getting one any smaller than that.  Before I clicked the link, I immediately thought you should be getting around a 7' single, which that is just shy of, is there one slightly bigger?  Are you able to take a tape measure to the retail units? !  I use a 6' single A frame for my domestics - sometimes a 7' would make things easier, other times there's no way a 7' would be viable, it depends on the space you have to work with.

I used to clean the local Homebase before they got a nationwide contract and I could use either my double or single A frame going round the outside of the garden centre windows, but it was a stretch with the 6' single.  Fortunately I had all the space I needed as there was no overhang.  WFP back then would've been amazing

Thanks for the reply Cbwc.

Yes I could take my tape measure but I'm inpatient and would like to order them today if possible. :)

Does this look more like it then:-

8.3ft in total.

Are Ramsey considered decent? What are the best manufacturer of a frames?

Try Midland ladders I've always bought from them and never had any issues
Personally I have only ever bought 8ft A frames as they will easily get you over gates and reach all ground floor Window.
Thanks,

Hi Deeege

I have had a Ramsey 8.3ft for 8 + years and they are great.

I am WFP and still use mine all the time for all sorts of things, not just Shop windows.

Years ago i had two trad vans, one in each and when i went WFP put both inside the one van. (I have a LWB Traffic so they fit inside)
Great for getting over gates, one on either side.

I get on flat roofs with them as well but sometimes could do with an extra foot or so for this.

I even use them inside for those really tall manor house sash windows and inside for stairwell windows, where me crate will not reach (yes i still use me good old trusted crate)

I put an old pair of socks over the feet so not to mark the carpets.

You can even put them onto the big shop windows glass if it is too wide to reach the top of the middle from either side.

I would not be without mine.

M99% of my shops i just use an extension pole rather than A frame, much easier.  Only time you need the A frame is if you've got a big sill on the top windows. for that i use midland ladders one, can't remember the size but its a bit taller than me and I'm 6 foot

Are these cheaper.

I am sure i got mine from here and it is a Ramsey and has the metal badge.

You could call them and ask.

A wagtail on a pole is great for this kind of work too.  Just use the A-Frame where the wagtail wouldn't be suitable.  It's much quicker for high and big windows than moving an A frame about.

You'll work out what's what yourself.
