Water cut off
« on: December 05, 2013, 04:39:21 pm »
Whats everyones choice to stop the water coming out your pole?

We currently use the black tap from Gardiners, but seem to break them quite regular. This is down to dropping them on the floor etc, not because the product is bad.

Others use Aquadaptors... ive never used one but not sure id like the extra weight at the top of the pole.

1 or 2 just crimp the hose by hand but surely that must drive you doolally.

In an ideal world you would just have a button at the bottom of the pole that your thumb could press when you wanted to stop or start the flow, so basiclly someone event that and i'll be happy  ;D

How do you guys do it?

10mm gas tap, aluminium inserts and copper olives.  2 spanners and brute force.

Done!

this one or the similar one that aqua adaptor sell,  which is a little better actually even better now the tap bit is broken in half, strange but the smaller the part you need to turn the easier it is to work with.

Aquadapter.

Everything is a trade-off. Add something to the end of the pole and you add a little extra weight. Buy an extreme brush and the extra weight is nullified.

We found there is a big difference weight wise from the current unit we have and the first Mk2 we started with. For us the benifits far outweighed the disadvantages. Not having to bend down with my bad back was a god-send for me. We also found we saved water, especially with a backpack my son loves to use and they don't break like the taps we used did. Replacement taps over a year were more expensive than the cost of an A/D.

The hose is stiff and some don't like it. You need to uncoil it before your raise your pole - if you do this it doesn't tangle up. I prefer the slightly stiffer red hose to the orange.

Buy a couple of relacement springs at 99p and you can't go wrong IMHO.

The latest V-Lite A/D is supposed to be lighter still.

You need to save every drop of water that you can.

I would agree with what Spruce has said.
I used a pole hose tap and the hose pinching method for years.
Recently I tried an Aquadapter (the new XL version).
It's great, so easy to use and im being honest when I say I really don't notice any extra weight on the end of the pole.
And the extra length is negligible.

Ive kind of pictured myself pulling the hose down after every window and considering you hands are holding the pole, surely its a nightmare?  ???

As a tap is in your hand already is quite simple... just I break them all the time  ;D

Might order one to see how I get on

James if you keep breaking them try these
http://www.gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000002.pl?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2egardinerpolesystems%2eco%2euk%2fcgi%2dbin%2fss000002%2epl%3fTB%3dA%26GB%3d%26SS%3djohn%2520guest%26PR%3d%2d1%26PG%3d%26REFPAGE%3dhttp%253a%252f%252fwww%252egardinerpolesystems%252eco%252euk%252facatalog%252fcatalogbody%252ehtml%26PN%3d1&WD=john%20guest&PN=John%2dGuest%2d8mm%2dstem%2dto%2d6mm%2dBarb%2dPM250806E%2ehtml
Don't know why the link is so long!!! But anyway if the little red caps come out and the springy thing inside using these helps a lot.
I wrap some insulation tape round to keep them secure and the worst that happens is the pole hose pulls of the barb.

Hi South Windows - you've got a great part of the country to work in. Only say that 'cos in 1980 I spent 6 weeks geologically mapping the Sutton Poynz & Poxwell area. Beautiful part of the world!

I would defo recommend aqua-dapter. I rinse on the glass, I pull the hose to stop the water just as I am getting to the bottom of the window.

i have a tap on the end of the microbore hose, i only pinch the pole hose

you pinch the hose with your fingers but you can still use your hand to lower and raise the pole
