gx270 carb replacement
« on: November 27, 2013, 10:58:26 am »
hi

my gx270 genny will only run on full choke so i'm guessing there's a carb issue. i need to get it running again quick so the plan was to buy a new non-genuine carb off ebay as there so cheap (£15) fit it and then clean the old carb in my own time later, and keep it as a spare - also bought a new gasket and fuel pipe. my question is will the new carb be already setup (or there abouts) so that its a straight swap over? and also are the non-genuine carbs ok? anything i should look out for when swaping it over? as you can probably tell i'm not a mechanic so any help appreciated.

thanks in advance

The main jet sounds blocked. Turn the fuel off, central bolt on the float (10mm spanner) comes out which allows you to either remove the main jet with a screwdriver (5mm max flat blade) or blow it out with air. The jet is above the screwthread that held the bowl on. Merely reassemble in reverse order

the non genuine are fine put one on my tech-clean 250 no problems, straight swop, do replace gasket & hose, and clean filter in tank.
!! if it can get dirty it can get clean !!

thanks for your help. yeah i took that off, and it looks fairly clear however the holes are so small its difficult to see. i've ordered a set of carb cleaning wires so will check with that. one thing i did notice is that the bowl is full of brown sludge at the bottom, which i'm guessing is rust and maybe what's been blocking something. is this normal? i would have thought petrol wouldn't rust so i'm guessing water has got in there? i use it at least once a week so its not been sitting around, but i bought it secondhand, so i don't know the history of it but it starts with half a pull so i'm guessing it was looked after.

that's good to know, i was a bit worried as they;re so cheap (£15). yes i bought a gasket and new hose (which was perished and tore when i removed it)
