80£ 1bed flat
« on: November 26, 2013, 12:23:28 pm »
I had a phone call yesterday to quote carpet cleaning in 1bed flat (double bedroom, living room and a hallway) I quoted 80£, which I thought it was a good price. After that ,5 sec. silence and then she replied "this is too much. I have seen adverts on the net for 40£ or I can rent the machine for 25£ and do it my self ! " and she droped the phone down.
Is 80£ too much??? What do you think guys?

Definitely not too cheap. Not only that, it's a flat, what floor was she on?

Don't beat yourself up about it, do you really want that type of customer? Someone who thinks they can do it themselves, she will spend £25 on hire, £10 on solution and prob a full day ruining her carpets.

Chances are you would have got there and spent hours moving all her crap as well.

Also if she's seen it on the net for £40 then why is she ringing you?

She had my number from her friend which I have done 3 seater. I think exactly what you think, but I was wondered if I was right or not. I already had a few phone calls like this so I thought I will ask you guys

My minimum for a 1 bed flat is £95,  ground and first floor only, £10 for each additional floor and i only go up to 3rd floor unless lifts. :)

I would be more worried that one person makes you question your value.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

The problem is most women haven't got a clue about how to select the right carpet cleaner... i mean we all do the same thing and the only difference is the prices.. right?
Its funny how they can spend hundreds on clothes, make up and shoes but begrudge paying a fair price for their carpets to be cleaned!

Russ

There is lots that will pay for your expertise and great quality work, YOU just have to find them .

I do Cheap and do expensive which ever  I can get at the time if things are slow then ill drop price if im busy ill up the price but no way am i sitting about complaining about others prices .

As Martin Riley once said to me , when a customer rings and says" your to dear" he would reply "if your only consideration for employing me is price, then I am afraid  your not the customer I want to work for", good day" .

Russ you have a great website van, videos why are you wasting so much energy moaning , complaining about everyone else??
I dont see simon , Mike, Shaun , Jason etc doing it are you struggling ?

£20 a carpet will always be here rise above it they arnt doing it just to get at You .

Ive one near me and they do any room £17.50 and are chocka booked and there reviews are great they are meeting a demand

Finding the right customer is the hardest bit of the job it really does take years but when you get into the slip stream you start to feel more confident about work.

Neil47 can you edit your post it doesn't read correctly it is a very good quote from Martin.

Oh dear, another alpha male......sweetie, most women run the budgets of a household as men are clueless when it comes to that sort of thing....most of our customers are ladies who appreciate quality and don't mind paying for it....perhaps you have just come across the wrong ones :)

Not at all. Often the difference is in quality. I think all of the most successful carpet cleaners, regardless of how much they charge, are able to offer their customers exceptional quality and that is how you keep your customers and  compete with other cc'ers.
Price may get you the job once, but quality is what gets you the same job the second and all successive times after that.

I agree with Shaun. The hardest part of this job isn't tunneling through blacktop or even getting loads more customers, its getting the right ones for you.

You develop your own sweet spot where they would never go elsewhere and think you offer exceptional value whatever you charge. This entails sacking those who don't fit and filling the vacuum with more good ones, mainly through referals (birds of a feather).

Its hard but its worth it.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.
